Craft Tea Fox Review – Smooth & Awesome Latte?

Apparently my Yaki Yaki Bo review caught the eye of some Craft Tea people at Craft Tea Fox…. and before you know it, I got some bottles of Matcha and Houjicha Lattes at my doorstep, without me even asking for it. Wah. Not bad sia. I guess I can be quite Craft Tea too. (I was honour-bound to seek revenge for the pun on the card. And all the puns on their site. And those of their packaging. So, anyway, this post is technically sponsored since free samples were provided) Staying Eco Friendly If you’ve taken the deep dive into ..read more

Best Thunder Tea Rice in Singapore (Lei Cha, 擂茶饭)

I must be weird. I’m not exactly a healthy eater, yet I’ve never had issues with vegetables. Naturally, I always like to remind my parents how lucky they are: I don’t smoke, I hardly drink, I don’t have a sweet tooth, and I love my vegetables. And so, we lead to one of my favourite dishes of all – the infamous Hakka ‘Thunder’ Tea Rice (aka ‘Lei Cha Fan’, 擂茶饭). Actually, the ‘thunder’ is a bit of a misnomer because the word ‘擂’ (Léi) actually means to ‘pound’. It sounds exactly the same as the ‘雷’ (Léi) for thunder. You can [...] The post Best Thunder Tea Rice in Singapore (Lei Cha, 擂茶饭) a ..read more

Buta Kin 豚金. Good Price, Good Ramen?

(This is not a sponsored review. Full disclaimer here.) Ramen. Ramen everywhere. I guess it’s somewhat inevitable that Japanese Ramen would be a huge deal in Singapore. We have a penchant for rich, flavourful broths, and apart from prawn noodle soup, there isn’t anything else in our own repertoire to fulfill that need. Or, the insidious primed us for it with a diet of instant noodles growing up. Anyway. Buta Kin. I was confused when they said they moved from Bedok to Beauty World Food Centre. Weren’t they already at Beauty World in the first place? I guess it had [...] The post Buta Kin 豚金. Go ..read more

Tsuta Ramen – Worth The Queues?

(This is not a sponsored review. Full disclaimer here.) Another day. Another new Japanese Ramen establishment in Singapore. But, wait! This is Tsuta Ramen 蔦 we’re talking about; It’s world’s first Japanese Ramen establishment with a Michelin Star! I love Japanese food. And I love my ramen. So how? Try lor. After the inevitable queues have died down of course. (By the way, in Singapore, ‘Ramen’ is proper, freshly cooked Japanese Ramen, not instant noodles. Those we call instant noodles, or ‘maggi mee’, from a popular instant noodle brand). There are 3 main soup bases to choose from at Tsuta ..read more

Yaki Yaki Bo – Best Value Teppanyaki Restaurant in Singapore?

(This is not a sponsored review. Full disclaimer here.) I love RE&S. They are behind some of the best mainstream Japanese restaurants in Singapore, and the list includes Ichiban-Boshi, Kuishin-Bo and of course the venerable Fiesta cheesecakes. Yaki Yaki Bo is their attempt and making Teppanyaki mainstream and affordable. Yaki Yaki Bo used to have an outlet at Jurong Point, but they switched that up to Men-Ichi, their ramen concept restaurent, so it’s currently down to the single unit at Serangoon NEX. At Yaki Yaki Bo, you have the option of sitting at the Teppanyaki table, or just having t ..read more

Even though ‘Airfryer’ technology has been around for a rather long time. Remember those round ‘rapid broilers’ sold on TV? Yeap. Airfryers are essentially redesigned broilers that use superheated air to cook. Thanks to insightful, user-friendly design overhauls and improved superheating by Philips however, Airfryers have become more effective at ‘frying’ foods, while being easy to use and to clean. With these airfryers, you can cook crispy, crunchy, tasty, healthier foods, using little to no oil! The HD9240 Airfryer is 1 of the newer, high end models from Philips. Takagi Ramen Review
The AARONLOY – Food

A recent facebook post about Takagi Ramen’s new outlet at Bukit Timah appeared on my feed. Not sure what the big deal was, apart from being cheap. Naturally, I had to try the original stall at Ang Mo Kio when I happened to pass by a few weeks back. It’s a quaint little store at a coffeeshop at Block 721 Ang Mo Kio Ave 8, and at first glance, the prices seem really palatable: Just starting at $5.50 for a pork broth ramen? AND…  get an extra of serving of noodles with each bowl of ramen ordered? Sounds pretty good! Naturally, [...] The post Takagi Ramen Review appeared first on theAARO ..read more

Italian Osteria Review (hillV2)
The AARONLOY – Food

Sometimes, the best things are the simple things, and sometimes, the thing that’s both the simplest and the best is a having lunch with old friends – even better when we try something new together to find that the food is good. hillV2 is a bit of a mixed bag. Not exactly convenient (better now, with Hillview station of the new Downtown line about 7 minutes away), and I believe they tried too hard to market it as an upscale and swanky gem. Well, this is Hill View, not Sixth Ave or Tanjong Rhu, and no offense, but the people [...] The post Italian Osteria Review (hillV2) appeared first on theAAR ..read more

SukiYa Review (Sukiyaki/Shabu Buffet)

It’s nice to see affordable shabu shabu buffet eateries popping up.  It’s a ‘healthier’, less greasy alternative to Korean BBQ, but just as filling and flavourful with the variety of available soups and fresh vegetables. The first time I tried Sukiya was at at Katong 113. I bought a groupon without knowing that it was only for 1 outlet lol. Been back to the other outlets a few times and I’ve still got mixed feelings about them though. Let’s see… How It Works. It’s simple – for the meats, you have a choice of chicken, pork and beef, which needs to be [...] The post SukiYa Review ..read more

Kanshoku Ramen Bar Review (Orchard Gateway)

I did a review for Kanshoku Ramen not long ago and I must admit, I didn’t come away impressed. I even questioned the nature of all the excellent reviews surrounding it. You can read more about it here. But, alas, once my hard critical shell’s been cracked, I’m, like most people, actually all soft and gooey inside. I think. Anyway. How can I not want a fellow Singaporean to succeed? I took note when I saw that they were opening the Kanshoku Ramen Bar at Orchard Gateway. Then there was also all this fuss over their new Truffle Ramen. So how? [...] The post Kanshoku Ramen Bar Review (Orchard ..read more
