Indexes in MongoDB play a crucial role in improving the query performance and increasing the overall database efficiency. Without indexes, MongoDB will perform a collection scan, i.e., it will read all the documents to find if they match the condition specified in the query and cause low response time. Indexes help in navigating directly to ..read more

Before MongoDB 4.4, we had a tool to use to analyze slow queries from the log file called mplotqueries from mtools (thanks, Thomas Rueckstiess, for the tool and the inspiration).Mplotqueries is a great tool that helped analyze slow queries on MongoDB Community, Enterprise, and Percona for MongoDB versions. But when MongoDB 4.4 was released and ..read more

Those memes that were super popular a couple of years ago show how you, your family, friends, and boss see your job vs. what you actually do. “Making sure we’re doing the right things” — that’s a one-sentence catchphrase I tell my relatives when asked what is Product Management all about. With a tool like Percona ..read more

Will 2023 be called the year of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI)? I don’t know, but certainly, the launching of ChatGPT at the end of 2022 sparked a huge hype explosion around that technology throughout this year. Interesting time indeed, we’re eyewitnesses to something that started changing our world. I played a bit with ChatGPT in February to see how it would respond to random database-related inquiries, and I found it pretty impressive and annoying at the same time.  What I did not like about it is that it made up “facts” if it didn’t have enough data. I managed to catch it lyi ..read more

MongoDB Queries Slow Due to Flow Control but No Replication Lag?
Percona Database Performance Blog | MongoDB
by Przemysław Malkowski
6M ago
Have you ever encountered queries delayed by flow control but found no lagged secondaries? This article shows a possible scenario of why this happens. Replica Sets provide high availability and redundancy to MongoDB clusters. There is always one primary node that can accept writes, but the replica set topologies vary depending on the use case and scale. A typical minimum replica set consists of two secondaries (PSS) or one secondary and one arbiter (PSA). The idea is that in case one node goes down, a majority of members are needed to elect the new primary. Replica Set configuration problem S ..read more
