We’re thrilled to share that IT company ILUX have donated £3,000 to our annual winter fundraising campaign. The money will light our iconic tower at Woodborough Road for 10 days over the festive period. This will represent each night a member of our staff has been able to spend in a patient’s home thanks to the donation. After a diagnosis of incurable kidney and prostate cancer, Norman, of the Meadows, started coming to the hospice for Wellbeing sessions where he enjoyed craft activities and meeting other patients, volunteers and staff. Norma, who had a heart condition, had been housebound for several years, but after a fall, her condition deteriorated and she was confined to her bed. Her daughter Gaynor and son Alan took it in turns to stay with her, but were becoming tired and anxious. Alice attended weekly wellbeing sessions at the hospice where she enjoyed arts and crafts sessions and meeting other patients and volunteers. Her daughter, Sue, said. “The wellbeing sessions gave Mum the opportunity to be in different surroundings with various people. We have very fond memories of those sessions. Julie Hart joined the hospice a year ago as Executive Assistant. Her role includes diary management, organising meetings, taking minutes, liaising with trustees and other administrative duties across various departments. Senior Healthcare Assistant Wendy Crofts joined the team at Nottinghamshire Hospice 17 years ago, which makes her the longest serving member of staff based at the Woodborough Road site. Wendy, who prior to this worked in a community care role, started out in what was then the Day Therapy unit, and on her very first day she took patients on a boat trip on the Trent. Nottinghamshire Hospice has recruited new staff, started a drop-in group for bereaved people and drawn up plans to reach out into other areas of Nottinghamshire.
