I’ve already shared a detailed look at some of my top picks from this year’s 3 Days of Design, and today I’m turning my attention to the other exhibitions that caught my eye. They were a little smaller or more conceptual than the ones I’ve featured so far, so I didn’t take enough photos to turn them into posts of their own, but they were no less interesting for it.
I’m splitting this final round-up into two parts, starting with a selection of exhibitions that showcased innovative and often sculptural contemporary design from Scandinavia and elsewhere. All were beautifully done, with plenty o ..read more

I have another highlight from 3 Days of Design to share with you today – a new addition to wood and flooring specialist Dinesen’s Copenhagen showroom, created to resemble a real-life apartment. Designed by the British architect John Pawson, who has been collaborating with Dinesen for over 30 years, it’s a wonderfully minimalist space that bathes you in a sense of calm from the moment you step inside.
Pawson was given free reign to do what he wanted with the apartment and chose to focus on three elements that represent his signature style: wood, light and the colour white. The result is a dec ..read more

I have yet another inspiring exhibition from Copenhagen’s 3 Days of Design to share with you today: ‘Enter the Salon’. A showcase of the magic that can happen when contemporary design and traditional craftsmanship combine, it brought together seven different brands and studios from around the world within the walls of private members’ club The Conary.
The exhibition was curated by Danish designer Signe Hytte, who was given free reign to transform the club’s interiors for the festival. Taking her cue from the 19th-century salons where intellectuals and creatives would share ideas, she reimagi ..read more

[Advertisement – Nuura covered the cost of my hotel stay during 3 Days of Design, but I paid all other expenses myself and wasn’t obligated to provide any coverage in return.]
I’ve been an admirer of Danish lighting brand Nuura ever since it made its debut at the Stockholm Furniture Fair back in 2018. It was founded by designer Sofie Refer and business partners Nadia Lassen and Peter Østerberg, with the aim of creating elegant, timeless and versatile lighting that embodies various aspects of Nordic nature.
The initial five collections were the work of Sofie herself, but Nuura has since branc ..read more

Today I have another highlight from this year’s 3 Days of Design – the new showroom of New Works, which has long been one of my favourite Danish brands and whose pieces appear in numerous places around my own home.
The just-opened space occupies the second floor of Bernstorff Palæ, overlooking the famous Marmorkirken (‘Marble Church’) in the heart of Copenhagen’s Frederiksstaden district. It’s three times the size of New Works’ former base just around the corner, but it still retains the same DNA – and the brand’s hallmark mix of calm minimalism, sculptural forms and honest materiality ..read more

After a bit of a delayed start, it looks as if summer is finally here in northern Europe. So, I’m continuing my seasonal guide to the best scented candles with an updated round-up for the warmer months ahead.
I’m always amazed by the power of fragrance to transform the ambiance of a space, spark distant memories or transport me to other places, and at this time of year I tend to find myself drawn towards heady scents that evoke sun-drenched days in the garden and balmy evenings under the stars. I’m also yearning for a bit of escapism in the form of fresh, coastal-inspired fragrances and ..read more

[Advertisement – this post is based on a press stay, but all words and opinions are my own]
I spent last week in Denmark enjoying 3 Days of Design – Copenhagen’s annual design festival, which sees hundreds of open showrooms, exhibitions, talks and workshops taking place around the city. It’s one of my favourite events of the year, and I always come back brimming with ideas and inspiration. I’ll be sharing my highlights over the next couple of weeks, but first I want to show you where I stayed: Hotel Sct Thomas.
Set on tree-lined Frederiksberg Allé to the southwest of the city centre, Hotel S ..read more

Cool-toned metals such as stainless steel, chrome, nickel and aluminium are definitely having a moment. Now I’m not one to follow trends, and I firmly believe in investing in homeware that will stand the test of time – but despite their current popularity, I think cool metallics fit into that category. In fact they’ve been a favourite of designers for decades, and even with the recent rise of warmer options like brass, copper and bronze, they’ve never really gone away.
Silver metals have always played a role in my own home, too. I love using them to introduce a bit of textural contrast, whic ..read more

When it comes to creating a beautiful dining area, many people assume the table is the most important element. But in my experience it’s actually the chairs which make or break the scheme. They’re normally the most eye-catching feature, and of course their level of comfort has a huge impact on whether the space is enjoyable to use. After all, there’s no point having a set-up that’s stunning to look at if you can’t bear to sit there for more than a few minutes at a time!
Finding the right dining chairs can be tricky. The vast array of choices can seem overwhelming, and there are all sorts of ..read more
