Several of my favourite design names have just released details of their spring-summer 2024 collections and one in particular immediately caught my eye: that of Danish brand &Tradition, which is known for its mix of timeless Scandinavian pieces and contemporary creations by a raft of international designers. I was particularly excited to see that its latest additions include a few relaunched classics, among them the ‘AX’ chair. Created in 1950 by Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen of Copenhagen-based firm Hvidt & Mølgaard, it was one of the first examples of laminated veneer furni ..read more

As we head into February, interiors brands are starting to release details of their new-season collections, and I’ll be sharing some of my favourites with you over the coming weeks. But first, it’s time for my regular round-up of individual product launches that have caught my eye, this month encompassing a beautiful kitchen, contemporary takes on classic chairs, adaptable furniture and more… The Vipp ‘V3’ kitchen First up is Vipp, which has launched its third kitchen range, the ‘V3’. The design pays homage to the Danish brand’s 85-year tradition of metalwork, with anodised aluminium cabinet ..read more

21 of the best marble coffee & side tables

Marble is a perennial favourite of mine – a timeless, durable and surprisingly versatile material that never looks tired. So, for my latest ‘best of’ round-up, I thought I’d update the selection of marble coffee and side tables that I originally shared a few years ago. Marble is often thought of as glamorous and decadent, but it works brilliantly in minimalist schemes. It looks particularly striking when paired with clean-lined, contemporary design, and it can be offset with all sorts of other surfaces to create an elegant note of contrast. Of course it’s rarely cheap, and the below sel ..read more

7 stylish places to stay in Portugal’s Douro Valley

It’s time for the final instalment in my series rounding up the stylish accommodation options in Portugal that I came across while planning and researching last year’s 10-day road trip through the country with a friend. I’ve already covered the best places to stay in the eastern Algarve, the rural Alentejo region and the coastal resort of Comporta, and today it’s the turn of the Douro Valley – our penultimate stop before we ended our journey in Porto. This was actually my second time in the Douro Valley, having spent a few days there with my husband back in 2015, but I was more than happy to ..read more

Sjöparken – a tranquil Swedish retreat with minimalist design & natural influences

Happy New Year! I hope you’re having a good January so far. It’s a gloomy, rain-soaked day here in Bristol, so for my first post of 2024 I’m sharing a bit of escapism with a peek at Sjöparken – a beautiful new hotel concept with calming, minimalist design, set amid the undulating fields of Ästad Vineyard in Halland, western Sweden. Designed by Norm Architects, Sjöparken consists of seven villas with four guest suites apiece, clustered around a lake at the heart of the estate. The emphasis throughout is very much on the natural landscape, with understated architecture that blurs the boundarie ..read more

A minimalist Christmas table in earthy neutral tones

I’m about to sign off for the festive break, but before I do I want to share a peek at this year’s Christmas table styling. I’m hosting this time around, so I wanted to create a magical tablescape that’s still in keeping with my minimalist style and neutral decor. As with the decorations in the rest of the house, I’ve gone for a nature-inspired look using earthy beiges and browns, with a bit of added sparkle and a dusting of snowy white. For the centrepiece, I’ve used a flower frog to create an ikebana-style arrangement that ties in with the fireplace display in the living room. There are sp ..read more

It’s time for my last round-up of new design finds of 2023 – and there’s a bit of a collaborative theme to this month’s edition. All the below launches are the result of partnerships between various brands, studios and designers, and the results are absolutely beautiful. There are gorgeous textiles, a minimalist chandelier, a new take on a much-loved lighting design, and a kitchen collection created by two companies with a shared ethos. Just read on for details… sustainable upholstery from Fredericia x Sheworks First up is Danish brand Fredericia, maker of many a Scandinavian icon. It has ju ..read more

My nature-inspired minimalist Christmas decorations

Over the past couple of weeks I’ve been sharing some inspiration for minimalist Christmas decorations and today I want to show you how I’ve dressed my own home. As always, I’ve kept things simple and natural, with a hint of festive magic. And, apart from a few candles and the tree, I haven’t bought anything new. The tree is of course the centrepiece, and going to choose it has become a favourite Christmas tradition. We always buy ours from the local Scout group, who run a charity sale each year, and it’s grown responsibly in the UK. We also send it to be turned into compost via another Brist ..read more

For the past few years I’ve been sharing Christmas gift guides on Instagram, but this year I’ve decided to transfer them back to the blog. So, scroll down for my pick of beautiful, considered presents – all with a dash of timeless minimalist style and all sourced from small businesses and independent makers, who need our support more than ever. I’ve divided things up by price rather than by person or theme, with gifts for £25 and under, gifts for £50 and under, and gifts for more than £50. Each selection includes ideas for design enthusiasts, foodies, nature lovers, those in need of rest and ..read more

21 of the best sofabeds with minimalist style

In today’s multifunctional homes, a sofabed is often a vital piece of furniture – a way to squeeze an occasional guest bed into a living room, a home office or a kids’ room, without taking up space that can be put to better use on a day-to-day basis. I’m now lucky enough to have a full spare bedroom, but that wasn’t always the case and I’ve relied on them in the past. I even spent several months sleeping on a sofabed as a student, when I lived in a tiny studio apartment in Paris that had no bedroom whatsoever! Sofabeds used to be bulky, ugly things with clunky mechanisms and paper-thin mattr ..read more
