Berat, Albania is one of the most beautiful places you can visit not only in the country but in the whole Balkan region. Known as “the city of a thousand windows” (due to its distinctive architecture), there are plenty of things to do in Berat that you simply don’t want to miss during your trip to Albania. Even if this is one of the most popular day trips from Tirana, it’s worth spending more time in Berat, to soak in its lazy atmosphere and enjoy all it has to offer. So far I was lucky to visit Berat twice and I know I will be returning there whenever I have a chance. I always fall for the vi ..read more

Bihac, Bosnia and Herzegovina isn’t the most popular destination in the Balkans. Tourists mostly use the town as a base to explore all the nearby attractions in both, Bosnia and Herzegovina and neighboring Croatia. And there are many of them! As it turns out, the town itself isn’t that bad either and there are actually a few interesting things to do in Bihac that are worth checking out. Give the place a chance and stroll around to see what Bihac attractions you can find. And then go to explore the surrounding area! Where is Bihac, Bosnia and Herzegovina Bihac, a city of around 50.000 inhabitan ..read more

If you are looking for a perfect day trip from Budapest – Szentendre, Hungary is your answer. The charming, artistic town is located only a short train ride away from the capital and with plenty of things to do in Szentendre it’s definitely worth your time. Even if I’ve been visiting Budapest frequently for years, I made it to Szentendre only recently. And I fell in love right away. The winding lanes and picturesque corners as well as numerous historical monuments in Szentendre make it one of the best places to visit in Hungary and it would be a pity to miss it. But since a day trip from Budap ..read more

Levoca, Slovakia is one of the most overlooked gems of Central Europe. Not many international tourists venture to this little town in the north of the country but that’s actually where you can find a real medieval masterpiece, among many other Levoca attractions. It might seem that this is just another picturesque town in the region but in fact, Levoca is one of the UNESCO sights in Slovakia, and that already should put the place on your radar. I’ve been to Levoca probably some five times by now. Every time when I’m in the area and I have some extra time to spare I decide to visit Levoca and s ..read more

Of all the places to visit in North Macedonia, Krusevo is among my favorite ones. The picturesque town, located high in the mountains is packed with attractions and things to do in Krusevo. This is also one of the most important places in Macedonian history and that’s already a good reason to visit Krusevo. When I arrived in Krusevo for the first time the weather was gloomy and misty, with visibility of only a few steps ahead. But when, in the morning, it got slightly better I was welcomed with the beautiful view of the town looking a bit unreal, like a model, with houses glued to each other a ..read more

This is one of the oldest places in Albania, inhabited since the 7th century BC, where you still can find numerous impressive ancient remnants, among other things to do in Durres. Rijeka, Croatia is often overlooked by tourists who prefer to visit more popular seaside destinations in the country. And I get it, really. There is no nice beach in Rijeka and the city is known as the largest port in Croatia which sets the vibe of the whole place. But when you look closer there in fact many cool things to do in Rijeka that make the city worth your time. The city has been very high on my bucket list for years but only recently I finally was lucky to visit Rijeka. And I must say it exceeded my expectations. Not only I found there some great examples of stunning architecture fro ..read more

While the majority of tourists who visit Croatia focus on beautiful towns and the seaside destination, the country has also some of the most unique places in the Balkans. One of them is the abandoned Željava Air Base. It was once one of the largest underground air bases in Europe and the top secret place on the map of the former Yugoslavia. But just like with the famous bay of abandoned hotels in Kupari near Dubrovnik, Željava Air Base was another victim of the cruel Yugoslav Wars in the 1990s when it was destroyed and eventually fell into disrepair. Today you can visit the abandoned complex a ..read more

I just returned from my 10 days in Tunisia trip and I can wholeheartedly say this country exceeded my expectations. And they were high! Spectacular Roman ruins, incredible vibrant medinas, long sandy beaches, charming towns and so much more – Tunisia has it all! And I was really glad I could include all the highlights in my Tunisia itinerary. What surprised me the most when visiting Tunisia was how few tourists were around, especially independent ones. After the terrorist attacks in 2015, Tunisia tourism really nosedived and it’s only slowly rebuilding. Even when there are more and more people ..read more
