Have you ever believed you just had “bad genes”?  I know I  have held that destructive belief in the past.  Last year, after many years of continued puzzling symptoms, doctors visits with no answers, and basically dead ends, I was diagnosed with Lupus.  After much suffering and no answers, this actually came as somewhat of a relief…. Just to know what I was up against. Along with these tests that confirmed a Lupus diagnosis, I also had my genetics tested.  I quickly became very intrigued and fascinated by genetics… Since then, I have had the great opportunity to study under some of the world ..read more

Organic Pumpkin Spice Latte

I don’t know about you, but the cool Fall temperatures and beautiful trees sure make me crave a Pumpkin Spice Latte! Did you know that a grande pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks has 50 g of sugar and 380 calories! This will wreck your blood sugar and hormones and cause weight gain! Diabetes in a cup!! With any coffee beverage it will be soo much healthier if you make your own. Choose organic coffee, because coffee is a very high pesticide crop (disrupts hormones, causes infertility and cancer). So something like coconut or almond milk instead of conventional dairy to avoid dozens of hormone ..read more

Grandma’s Layered Cranberry Dessert

What is your favorite Fall family recipe?   I have too many to share but one is my Grandma Brogger’s layered cranberry dessert recipe! Her original recipe was amaaaazing but contained many unhealthy ingredients like processed sugar, conventional dairy and wheat/gluten. Because I am fighting Lupus (and it is a fight I intend to win), it is extremely important to avoid such inflammatory ingredients. So I have recreated her recipe using all organic ingredients, a homemade coconut whipping cream instead of dairy, coconut sugar instead of processed sugar, and some gluten free rice/seed crackers ins ..read more

Cheesy Scalloped Japanese Sweet Potatoes

Sometimes it is easy to get into a funk when it comes to healthy side dishes.  One side that is just not healthy that I really miss is potatoes…. baked potatoes, scalloped potatoes, loaded potatoes, fried potatoes… pretty much all potatoes!  But the problem with your traditional russet potatoes is that they are pretty much pure starch.  This will spike your blood sugar faster than eating a candy bar and pack on the pounds if eaten regularly.  This in turn can contribute to insulin issues which affects everything from weight to hormones to mental health!  Then when you add highly processed infl ..read more

If you struggle with inflammation or autoimmunity at all, chances are that food sensitivities and inflammatory foods might be a culprit.  I used to struggle really bad with Hashimoto’s (autoimmune thyroid disease) as well as Hypothyroidism.  I always ate really healthy, maybe only having bread or grains about once a month.  But then I listened to a podcast from an online summit featuring experts on autoimmune disease, and learned that even one exposure gluten can cause an autoimmune cascade of reactions for 6 months.  6 MONTHS!! So at that time I decided to nix the gluten all together as well ..read more

Since beginning my journey to healing from a variety of health conditions, and eating a very clean and anti-inflammatory diet, one of the things I have really missed is loaded baked potatoes.  But unfortunately these are usually not the healthiest option…. white potatoes are really high glycemic (they are a quick starch that turns right to sugar when you eat it) and can be very inflammatory, especially to those suffering from autoimmune or inflammatory health conditions.  And the “loaded” part is not great either…. usually a toxic meat like pork and lots of dairy!  Yikes!  Tasty, but not so he ..read more

This recipe is sure to add some flavor to your life!  This is great as a topping to my Chicken-Mango-Avocado Stuffed Sweet Potatoes, but can also be added as a topping for cod or flounder, or as a stand alone chip dip!  It’s really yummy paired with Siete Lime Grain-Free Tortilla Chips! Ingredients: 1 large (or 2 small) avocados 1 organic mango 1 Tbsp unsweetened coconut yogurt Fresh juice from 1/2 organic lime 1/2 bunch organic cilantro 1/2 tsp pink Himalayan salt Directions: In a small mixing bowl, mash up the avocado (P.S. avocados are pretty safe to get non-organic, so spend your organic ..read more

Rosemary Maple Bacon Wrapped Salmon

I try to have a salmon dish at least once a week (with leftovers for lunch or dinner the following day too).  This is a quick and easy entree loaded with healthy fats and protein. When shopping for salmon (or any fish for that matter), you really want to make sure you get wild caught.  This will be a much higher quality and healthier fish source for you.  Farm raised fish are not raised in their natural environment, and are also loaded with tons of health damaging chemicals like antibiotics and growth hormones, making a “healthy” food option not so healthy after all.  Antibiotics in meats can ..read more
