Uncapped all-rounder Jack Jarvis has been called up to the Scotland Men’s squad for the first time for next month’s trip to Nepal, a tour which will see Head Coach Shane Burger take charge of the national team for the final time. Scotland will play their final Cricket World Cup League Two matches for the 2019-2023 cycle in Nepal, looking to top the table and keep positive momentum going, having already secured their place at the World Cup qualifier in Zimbabwe in June and July. Scotland head coach Peter Ross has been reflecting on the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup in South Africa with plenty of “positives” to take from the experience. The showpiece competition continues until January 29, but the Scots flew home on Sunday after managing to finish their participation with a victory over USA on Friday. Molly Paton of Stewart’s Melville held her nerve to hit a 4 off the third last ball of the match to give Scotland a dramatic five wicket victory over USA which ended their ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup in South Africa on a high on Friday. The match took place at Willowmoore Park in Benoni and both sides went into their final match of the showpiece event looking for a first win having finished bottom of Group D and Group A respectively. Nayma Sheikh took the prize wicket of Shafali Verma and Scotland battled hard, but in the end they lost to India by 85 runs in their final Group D match at the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup in South Africa on Wednesday. The match took place at the Willowmoore Park B Field in Benoni, and India won the toss and decided to have a bat. Scotland managed to reduce them to 34-2 at one stage before a 70 run partnership between Gongadi Trisha and wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh got the Indians back on track. Scotland had the hosts in trouble on 43-6 batting first at one point in their second Group D match at the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup on Monday, but South Africa secured the win in the end. The match took place at Willowmoore Park in Benoni and the Scots were looking to bounce back from an opening loss to UAE on Saturday. South Africa lost on the same day to India. In a sun drenched St Stithians School in the outskirts of Johannesburg, Scotland Women’s U19’s delivered an impressive performance versus the USA in their first official warm-up match of the ICC Womens U19 T20 World Cup USA won the toss and put Scotland into bat which seemed to have suited the Scots as Lister started strongly with a six off the first ball. Scotland reached 79/0 after the first 10 with Lister on on 38 off 35 balls and Carter 36 off 25. Cricket Scotland have announced that the Scotland Men’s head coach Shane Burger will leave his position at the end of February to move to a new role as Assistant Coach and Lead Batting Coach at Somerset County CC. Shane joined Cricket Scotland in March 2019 having steered KwaZulu-Natal Inland to three trophies over a successful three year period from 2015 to 2017. After several days focused in the nets and the gym, Scotland Women’s U19’s got the opportunity today to get some vital game time in an unofficial warm up match versus the USA. The game, played at Steyn City School, gave the opportunity for 14 of the squad to be involved and it was Scotland that were put into bat after USA won the toss. All 11 of the team had a knock with Lister (31) and Sheikh (20) contributing half of Scotland’s total of 100/9 in the 20 overs.
