Any under 18s who got diagnosed with NPD? What was your case?

Many people say there is an age minimum to diagnosis of personality disorders However from DSM5 criteria it does not say that - just that the symptoms need not be normative for development Not all teens are narcissistic. And narcissism in teens is on a spectrum. Some are slightly narcissistic while others are extremely narcissistic and it causes problems in multiple settings Is it unreasonable to think that the extreme end of both narcissism and problems because of it in teens would be NPD? submitted by /u/WaterOk9249 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I think I'm under cold therapy. The therapy has been partially successful. I am no longer abusive or grandiose, but I am still a narcissist. The tree has been skinned off of branches, but roots still linger in the earth. More so of the NPD variant than any covert or overt variant. The reason I think this is because they basically acknowledge that my parents are narcissists, but vehemently oppose that I am a narcissist or a psychopath. Using psychosis, all they do at the hospital is bully me and tell me how much of a piece of shit I am. I oppose this therapy. My conviction is that the ends doe ..read more

Update on Therapist who Refused to Diagnose Me

So yeah, my therapist was aware of my multiple manipulation tactics to get my diagnosis formally and basically outmaneuvered me lol And again, she said I had "strong narcissistic traits" but this time confirmed that diagnosis means defeat. So, since I am not diagnosed, I am still "salvageable". She said instead of trying to manipulate her into giving me a diagnosis, I should work on managing my symptoms instead. Is what she is true or is she trying to play some mental gymnastic card on me? submitted by /u/Ok-Advisor2824 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I am a 21M, My most recent relationship made me feel as though I could be a narcissist, my girlfriend of 3 years left me because of narcissistic traits. I created a bubble where I pushed my friends away and enjoyed the fact that she had no friends to be able to create a world in this bubble where I was in control and felt good. I always invalidated her feelings and opinions by always over explaining mine and justifying them with logic and reason to the extent that she was never right and I was never wrong. I thought we had a relationship that was superior to others because of the way that we ..read more

I'm 34, I have been going through a time of reflection following the end of a 3-year relationship that was very important to me. As a result my self-esteem has been at rock bottom and recently I have started to question my life and how I behave and I think that I may be a narcissist. I have some very clear issues that have been pervasive throughout my life and all of my friends and partners can easily identify these. Before I continue here are my scores: NPI 16-18 OCD 2/20 Codependency 5 I absolutely do have empathy but I can switch it off at will. I call this my 'stone face' when literally a ..read more

I am a 21M. I grew up raised by a strictly religious single parent. My parent told me they ran off from my other parent because they were super neglectful towards me for being so sick all the time. Now about the "sick part" I'm epileptic and constantly had seizures growing up so I was always in and out of hospitals. I made friends with a few of the kids whose parents my parent hung out with they would praise me and wish their kids were more like me. Hanging out with their kids wasn’t anything special as I really disliked all of them either because they had a happier family than mine or they h ..read more

I'm glad I don't have cognitive empathy.

I have affective empathy (the ability to feel other people's pain when they are in pain), but I don't have cognitive empathy (the ability to see things from the shoes of another person.) I'm not sure I would want it. In high school competition, I was 2nd place. We later found out it was a mix-up and I was actually first place. I didn't really think about the other kid who was given false hope and his shoes. In college, I was given the opportunity to transfer to a better ranked sports school with a scholarship. I liked my first college, but didn't really think how they saw the situation or put ..read more

Am I a genius or a narcissist NPI 28 Cdp 15 OCD -6 I've struggled since a kid with ideas I'm a genius, shoving them down bc I know it sounds terrible. The reason I thought this is because I was having ideas about determinism and philosophical things at a very young age and thinking about God religion etc. I was also lucid dreaming very intensely from about 11. I found school very easy and did very well without studying. To complicate matters I grew quite tall and handsome (6'3) and people say I could be a model quite a lot. Narcissism amplifies the dopamine my body naturally releases as a reward

Narcissism amplifies the dopamine I get. I get lot of dopamine even from low effort tasks or things I did no effort in achieving. I constantly ask myself questions like, "Why I'm so high IQ", "Why I'm so beautiful". The duration of supply is short, 5 seconds at most. Tasks like solving a math, leetcode or any other cognitively demanding problem, gaining knowledge of something gives me most dopamine even more than what I get from "manipulating" people. submitted by /u/Chooseausername6544 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
