Pivoting Quilt Pattern

I’ve been leading up to something for a while, and now it’s time to introduce you to… …my new quilt pattern! It’s called Pivoting, and there’s a story behind it, as I imagine there is with just about every quilt. Get the pattern I hate to play favorites, but quilt projects have been what I’ve been drawn to for at least a couple of years now. It feeds my need to play with geometric shapes and colors in a way nothing else can. The problem was, I was winging it. I could design a quilt and sew it up, and even explain how I did it, but the software I was using was clunky for the job. I also didn ..read more

This mini quilt is perfect for decorating when the holidays have passed, but it’s still winter! I’ve been waiting for what feels like a long time to share this one with you. I made this almost two years ago! I originally designed this one for We Like Sewing magazine. It even made the front cover! (I also have a project in this months issue, but that one is subscribers only right now) It’s been long enough now I can share this one with you here. This is a great project for beginners, and perfect for dipping your toe into half square triangles. To make this you’ll need: beige cotton fabric ..read more

Birthday Layer Cake Quilt Block

Happy New Year! Let’s start off a birthday layer cake quilt block, shall we? You know it’s going to be a good one if it starts with dessert. I hinted around a bit about what the monthly project would be this year, but I don’t think I ever got to the point. Well, it’s time to spill the beans. This year will be a quilt block of the month! This BOM (block of the month) is a little different than the last one. Instead of each of my monthly blocks fitting into an annual theme, I’m partnering with a bunch of other quilt designers on a monthly theme. What does that mean for you? Each month several d ..read more

Wow, it’s been a big year for sewing! As it winds down, let’s talk about the twelve most popular sewing projects for 2022. See anything you haven’t made yet? As the year draws to a close I like to look back at how it all went. There’s a whole range of emotions that can go along with that, but this year I’m so happy to see how many of you have been sewing along with me! As usual, the projects kind of run the spectrum. We have simple scrap busters all the way up to a full sized quilt. There are things that fit in every season. Shall we take a look? #12 Windowed Zip Bag I’m never sure where to s ..read more

Here we are, not only at the end of Festive Fridays, but also my last Friday Favorites. That 620 number up there is real, so this is the 620th entry in this series. I feel okay about letting it retire. I hope you’ve enjoyed it as much as I have! Now, let’s talk about that last minute bit. Maybe to you, like me generally, last minute means I’m sewing in my pajamas on the eve of Christmas eve. But as a maker, you know it’s a scramble any time you’re trying to finish something up with under two weeks to go! This post contains affiliate links. For my full disclosure policy click here. Octagon Ornament

I think we all know this series had to end up with an octagon shaped ornament, right? We’re in the final month of The Year of the Octagon. I have no doubt there were some eyebrows raised when I started this series, and they might still be up there, but I had fun and I hope you did too! This last entry is, of course, a Christmas tree ornament. My favorite thing about this one is that it’s perfect for using up leftover charm squares. I always seem to have a few of those around. When it came time to decorate my tree this year I invited my grandkids over to help. They are 1 1/2 and 3 years old, so as you might imagine, the tree is a little bottom heavy on decor. They had so much fun though, I don’t even mind! This post contains affiliate links. For my full disclosure policy click here. It snowed at my house almost exactly a month ago, and it’s been so cold ever since it has just stayed put. This ornament from Little Things to Share seems appropriate for this year. It’s been a very long time since I’ve had actual ribbon candy, but these ornaments make an appearance ev ..read more

Ah, the littles. Even the big littles are fun to make things for. I spent a lot of time doing that for my kids as they grew up, and now I’m in round two for the grandbabies! This post contains affiliate links. For my full disclosure policy click here. Speaking of those grandkids, they probably each need one of these quilts from Bee Sew Inspired. I love the comic book style layout! There’s always something out there for the Star Wars fan, including this Chewbacca softie. There’s nothing scary about this funny alligator from Sew4Home. This fishy travel game from Thermoweb is made to take on ..read more

Now that we’re into December, where are you on your holiday prepping and planning? I feel pretty well on track so far, but the month is still young! I’m making a few small gifts this year, but most of my sewing lately is either catching up (hello, graduation 2022 gift!) or getting ahead for the next calendar year. This post contains affiliate links. For my full disclosure policy click here. Here’s a peek at the fabric that just arrived for a quilt pattern I’m releasing in January. These are Painter’s Palette Solids from Paintbrush Studio. They’re fairly thick, yet still soft. I can’t wait to t ..read more
