Ocean Sunset Quilt Block

One of my favorite things about the west coast is watching the sun go down over the water, so I decided to make it into an ocean sunset quilt block! It’s time for our April BOM, and this month our theme is the Beach. When my husband and I were dating, we used to hop in the car after work and speed to the coast once in a while, just so we could see the sun set over the ocean. The drive was only a couple of hours. It was Oregon, so more often than not we were met with a wall of clouds or fog, with the sun completely hidden. The trip paid off a couple of times though, with a dazzling sunset over ..read more

Thrown a Curve Quilt

I made a little quilt with curved piecing for my MQG swap quilt, and got something beautiful back in return! After I’d been in Montana for a while, I had a couple of conversations with other quilters in town about how fun it would be if we had a branch of the Modern Quilt Guild in our town. Last summer we started one! Even after all these months, we’re still learning about the resources available to us. There are so many fun videos, projects, challenges, and ideas. One of those was a mini quilt swap they organized a few months ago. The options were to swap in person at QuiltCon or by mail. Si ..read more

Coordinated Placemats and Napkins

Want to brighten up your table? Make a set of these matching placemats and napkins! About a year and a half ago my husband and I were in a local shop that sells wood. That might sound kind of boring, but I could spend all day at this place. They have pieces in all sizes and species. We were there to find something to use for the mantle above our fireplace, which we found, but I also fell in love with this beauty. It was a slab of black walnut, measuring about eight feet from top to bottom. I figured we’d have to store in for a few years until after we build the house, but I couldn’t leave wi ..read more

Preserving your own food is pretty fulfilling, and so is making a canning jars quilt block to commemorate it! Now that the longest month of the year is over, let’s talk about the February BOM! This month’s theme is Maker. That’s a pretty wide-open topic, and of course I thought of a maker of quilts. But someone can be a maker without ever touching a sewing machine, and I wanted to make sure they were celebrated too! There are also lots of other designers ready to share their version of a maker block, and they feature all kinds of creativity. As a reminder, all blocks are 12” x 12” finished (1 ..read more

I can’t be the only one who wants some new sewing room decor in January, can I? My newest quilt pattern is available today! It’s called Into the Sewing Room, and comes with the panel you see in the center of the quilt. Into the Sewing Room Quilt Pattern and Panel This is the third in my series of sewing room quilts and like the others, this one is perfect for a confident beginner skill level and up. I haven’t had a chance to sew all of the variations I’ve been playing with, but I’m excited to! This one would just require shades of grey for the colors, and one heart made in reds, of course ..read more

Quilted Granny Square Ornament

You don’t have to crochet to enjoy a granny square ornament on your tree! I don’t crochet, mostly because I can’t seem to stop myself from pulling the yarn so tight it’s practically screaming. I’m not going to dive into the psychology behind that, but let’s just say it’s not the relaxing hobby for me that it seems to be for others. However, having been a little kid in the 70’s, granny squares have a special place in my heart. Especially since I’m a granny myself now! I figured out a way to make it happen in a quilty way with a few scraps. I love how these turned out! To make one you’ll need ..read more

‘Tis the season for a reindeer quilt block! Welcome to the December BOM (block of the month)! This month’s theme is Forest. I usually try to keep my blocks a little more simple, but I started down the path with this one and just couldn’t stop. It’s just too cute! Admittedly, it has more pieces than mine typically do, but I’ve documented every step, and none of them are difficult. We’ve got this! There are also lots of other designers ready to share their version of a forest block, and they would look great with this reindeer. As a reminder, all blocks are 12” x 12” finished (12 1/2” x 12 1/2 ..read more
