WARDROBE TRACKER | JUL-SEPT UPDATE

Incredibly, I have been tracking my wardrobe for 8 consecutive quarters!! That’s writing down in a spreadsheet every single item I wore for two years in a row! I’m preparing a future post with lessons I learned from my two years of wardrobe tracking, but for now I wanted to record my findings for the last quarter of year 2 (my years run 1st Oct to 30th September btw). This is because I always do the comparison to the previous quarter, so I wanted to make sure I don’t miss out on this for my own records. WHY SUSTAINABLE SEWING SHOULD STILL MATTER IN 2020

David Attenborough joined Instagram last week. And he got to 1m followers in 45 minutes, beating the record for the fastest rise. But more important is the reason why he chose to engage with the platform: because he is trying to reach younger audiences and raise the awareness on just how dire the climate situation is. He was also on BBC Breakfast on Monday talking about how if there is one small sliver of hope to save the natural world, we need to keep fighting. This prompted me to think about the topic of today’s post and how, in the… The post WHY SUSTAINABLE SEWING SHOULD STILL MATTER IN 20 ..read more

The A-line skirt continues to be a classic wardrobe staple. Yes, staple can mean boring, but not when there are so many possibilities to styling it into all kinds of outfits. For this instalment of my 3 Ways to Style series, I wanted to show you how I styled one of my favourite skirts, a simple, yet very interesting to wear and fun to sew pattern from Fibre Mood. It’s called Jutta and it’s from Issue 5 last year. I actually made it last summer, but it didn’t actually make it on the blog. However, it got loads of wear… The post 3 WAYS TO STYLE A DIY A-LINE SKIRT | FIBRE MOOD JUTTA appeared fir ..read more

Well, this September thing turned out to be much better than we expected here in the UK, so I get to wear my summer makes for a few more weeks. Also, this means that a breezy little dress will not look out of place on the blog right now. Hope this weather holds, as I have at least 4 more hot weather projects I haven’t posted about yet and I am very keep to share them with you before we all start wrapping up for the winter. Anyway, about this flirty little number… Believe it or not (and if it’s… The post DIY PINK TIERED DRESS | SLEEVELESS FIBRE MOOD MIRA HACK appeared first on SEWRENDIPITY ..read more

9 STYLISH SEWISTS TO FOLLOW

Style is one of the cornerstones of this blog, but for once, this post is not really about me. It’s a celebration of a group of fabulous women with amazing style that inspire me on a regular basis. I almost titled this post ‘my style muses’ and the fact that I chose 9 ladies to showcase is not an accident. In fact, it’s a nod to the goddesses of ancient times that influence all things creative. When I first started sewing and discovered the online sewing community, bloggers like Erica Bunker and Nikki from Beaute J’adore were the first ones… The post 9 STYLISH SEWISTS TO FOLLOW appeared first ..read more

DIY WOVEN TANK WITH A CUTE COLLAR | SEAMWORK ADDISON IN COTTON VOILE

It’s proper scorchio in London, so I am reaching for light, cool and mostly natural fibre items. And it turns out I don’t have as many of those as I thought. In the air-con office, I didn’t seem to mind polyester that much, but since the lockdown, and especially since London turned into the Sahara desert, I can’t bear it on my skin. So this top was a bit of an emergency make, if you will, because of this unexpected gap in my wardrobe. But I knew it would be a winner. I’ve made Addison twice before , and I… The post DIY WOVEN TANK WITH A CUTE COLLAR | SEAMWORK ADDISON IN COTTON VOILE appeared ..read more

DIY TIERED SUMMER DRESS | FIBRE MOOD ROSALIE + MIRA

What happens when Rosalie meets Mira? Well, let’s call her Rosamira… Or should it be Miralie? Yes, more Fibre Mood love, this time of the mashing kind. I love my pattern hacking alright, but nothing better than frankenpatterning two or more into something new. Rosalie has been hacked before (see this flounce scuba top) and she was a real success. Same for Mira (check out the hacked version). And of course, they both got made in the original versions (white Rosalie and navy Mira). So 3rd time lucky, it’s a lovechild! So let me tell you how she came together…… The post DIY TIERED SUMMER DRESS ..read more

Wow, almost 4 months of working from home (and pretty much staying at home). I never imagined that I would miss getting dressed for the office, but I sure do wish I put on a dress every now and again. Even though they are not all that exciting, I have continued to diligently record what I have been wearing during the past few months and I was as curious as (I hope) you are to see the outcomes. If you are wondering what I am on about, check out how I decided to record every single thing I wore every… The post WARDROBE TRACKER | APR-JUN 2020 UPDATE appeared first on SEWRENDIPITY ..read more

I did warn you this post was coming. Oh, was it back in the other life in March, beyond the wormhole of the lockdown happened? Yeah, I had to go back and see what I wrote too. But anyway, this is part 2 of the Working from Home outfits, this time the ‘keeping cool edit’. It seems almost unbelievable how many layers I had on in late March. Now I really can’t think how to keep my body temperature down… What a difference a few months make (and summer!). I have been working from home since mid-March and although I… The post DIY WORK FROM HOME SUMMER STYLE | 3 DIY OUTFIT FORMULAS appeared first on ..read more

DIY EMERALD BACK TIES JUMPSUIT | FIBRE MOOD DANIKA REVIEW

[GIFTED PATTERN] Jumpsuits are a bit of a marmite issue for people. You either love them, because they can be both stylish and comfortable. Or you hate them, because well, they are not easy to get out of in a hurry. Also, RTW jumpsuits can be a pain if you are different sizes in the upper and lower body. Well, that last bit it’s the easiest to go around. Just make your own and adjust the bodice and trousers to fit your body, not that ‘standard size’ of the fashion industry. So here I am with another Fibre Mood pattern,… The post DIY EMERALD BACK TIES JUMPSUIT | FIBRE MOOD DANIKA REVIEW appear ..read more
