Entry level cameras can do the work for a professional

A debate on threads after i posted: Cameras can teach you more? Yes, I am a proof of that. But with time you will learn that a Photographer with capital P will be able to produce great work even with an entry level camera. I am a special case too: I work as professional with entry level cameras. And I love them for several reasons, by working often in unsafe places to the need to count with light and no hiding face behind a camera. All over these years I always preferred to work with compact and light cameras. As I said it is a matter of where I live and the kind of photographs I make, especi ..read more

I am pleased to introduce to my readers this cool news I was asked to write an article for this magazine and the result is amazing with a lot of pages dedicated to my work. As contributor, of course, each photograph, was made with an Olympus camera. So it was included my well nown shot made in Los Angeles in 2011 with the Olympus Pen EP1 and then all photos made with the Olympus Pen EP5 that is currently my main camera for street photography. I am honored to participate to this issue providing a lot of cool work from landscape to portraits of several talentedd photographers. Happy because I t ..read more

Beyond the Snapshot: Psychological & Meditative Techniques for Street Photography

There are several approaches to Street Photography we can consider. Mindfulness: To be there: Practice mindfulness to be fully engaged in the moment as you walk the streets. Notice the sights, sounds, and energy around you, allowing for unexpected and candid moments to unfold. Be receptive through an open mind. Don’t think for labels and only focus in the place where you are. Detached Observation: Develop a sense of detached observation. Become an observer of the scene without judgment, allowing emotions and stories to unfold naturally within the frame. Focus and Attention: Non-judgme ..read more

Saturday morning, Mexico City downtown. My camera Olympus Pen EP5 set to black and white. In the street workflow that means stream of consciousness for me, I can see how I am enjoying the experience more than ever in black and white. This return to black and white means I have understood that I can still use both languages for my visual research. The merit is certainly of the Olympus Pens which feature simply top-level black and white jpg engineering. Yesterday was a very positive day, although I'm noticing a resurgence in suspicion of the camera, more people seeming annoying, and this leads t ..read more

The language on the street

Raw, gritty, nasty and exciting The city thrums with a life of its own, a symphony of destruction, chattering crowds, and the rhythmic beat of my footsteps.I am a street photographer and I am in the stage. By being on that stage comes with its own unwritten rules, a language you learn through experience, sometimes the hard way. "Guero, do you want marijuana?" – a reminder that the city's energy can be raw, unexpected. Then came the annoyed scowl of a young woman, clearly ruffled by having her moment captured: “Que haces? Pinche guey”. I am a photographer and I do my job. But the street has an ..read more

Essentially a portrait photographer

This is evident also in my street photography Julia Klug. Mexico City, 2023. Alex Coghe For me the portrait must be a cultural testimony. This is why I prefer them to be set and not ends in themselves. The context determines an information base that explains to us about the person and his role in the world. It gives a reason for it and therefore gives a different dimension that is not limited to aesthetics. The portrait, therefore, becomes an admission of the photographer's being, of his thoughts, of the mental state at the moment of clicking. And it therefore becomes an exhibition and transp ..read more

Yesterday in dowtown As I often repeat, my street photography feeds on imperfection. I'm looking, for example, for a subject that passes in front of my lens and I don't care if it's all in a state of blur. For me street photography is skateboarding. Creating something through what happens on the street, what you encounter, and therefore it is humoral and based on instinct. Based on this everything comes as a consequence. Yesterday morning the city woke up after the demonstration on March 8th. But I preferred to dedicate myself to something else and my art means something else. The journalism c ..read more
