Does anyone know if this company is legit?

I’ve grown rather desperate for a job and I am a writer by grace, so I’m looking into some online job boards. Found one advertising what seems too good to be true, a company called “Ivy League Consulting” advertising $20 per hour. Does anyone have experience with this company/know if they’re real? submitted by /u/Altruistic_Current_4 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

How many new clients per year?

A new client made a comment in a recent onboarding call that made me think about client churn. The majority of my work comes from repeat clients. I tend to charge a lower rate to these companies (in comparison to new clients). But I know the the product and tov inside out so I can produce the copy very quickly. I would say I take on an average of 10 new clients per year. Some of these are one-off jobs and some turn into ongoing work. I'm interested if that's the norm. Or do you work mostly with new clients? submitted by /u/rustykeys1 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Does specialising in an area lead to burnout?

I have specialised in an area over the years, first as an academic and then as a freelance journalist, but lately, I find it too tiring, almost like having burnout. And I haven't been in the freelance writing business for that long (less than a year). I want to continue writing in the specific field, but even the slightest effort in trying to search for stories/angles and pitching tires me out, and I don't have the eagerness I once had. I am afraid to jump to a different niche as I am no expert, nor i have any contacts nor I really know of what else I could write about. Is anyone having a sim ..read more

How does one deal with an employer who tends to micromanage the creative process and thinks they know better than the professional and ends up sabotaging the very work they hired them to do?

Static Media was one of my worst experiences as a freelancer

And I didn't even pass their trial article phase. I'm convinced this company exists to waste freelancers' time. The trial took about 5 hours of back and forth communication via email, a phone call, and then the trial period where you have to get on a Slack channel to pitch and write a roughly 1000 word article based on three topic ideas. The trial editor who was working with me liked my detailed pitch and had no notes when I completed and sent over the article. They took about 2 days to get back to me and finally concluded that I'm not a good fit because I had some "unsourced areas" in my art ..read more

How Much To Charge for Niche Technical Writing?

I'm considering a few freelance jobs for technical writing. The Job: The articles would be somewhat niche and moderately technical. They would cover topics that are fairly new, in the sense that they would be related to how to build/use/train modern machine learning and LLM systems. My Experience: I have many years of experience in machine learning and data science. I'm also a moderately experienced technical writer. I've written well over 200 articles on technical topics (for a sum total of at least 350,000 words) on my own blogs. Question: How much should I charge for highly technical artic ..read more

Would anyone be willing to share with me some examples of marketing case studies you've done based on client success stories? I'm a newbie at this and not totally sure where to start. Basically writing up a short case study on a success story a client has had outsourcing contractor work on a platform. Just looking for input so I can better ground myself in how these things should look! submitted by /u/Desperate_Two2894 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

its been 3 months, 700+ DMS sent. I cant get any client, it's so frustrating. I know what you guys are thinking, and I'll just cover that right now. I offer work for free, Iam respectful, not pushy, dont come off as desperate, I have content I post daily from the Instagram page I message them on, professional bio and photo. The problem is, I CANT EVEN GET SOMEONE TO OPEN THE MESSAGE. Ive tried it all, messaging people with 5k or less followers, and upwards of 150k. they still WONT EVEN OPEN THE MESSAGE. this is ridiculous, like idk what to do. and the ones that do, I send them what I promised ..read more

Used to write novels for fun, now planning to write novels for money. Where do I begin?

Short story: I'm still a college student, and I'm looking to turn my fictional writing skills into a freelance job to earn some money to help my family once I improve enough that I'm okay with sharing my writing. Long story: I've been writing a lot for >2 years by now, mainly making fanfics for my friends and sometimes, myself. I've written some long-form novels, but I've stopped writing them in pursuit of getting to improve my writing a lot more. Although I did want to finish college first, financial issues have arisen due to unforeseen circumstances and now I'm looking to help my family ..read more
