Stumbled on this interesting platform and wondering if any other writers are using it? I work in marketing and do it for some clients, seems like a great PR platform. Would love to know thoughts from those who've used it! Cheers, submitted by /u/Audioecstasy [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Do you ever brush up on your grammar/writing skills?

Lately I’ve been feeling like my writing skills are slipping a bit, especially with comma usage. I want to work on this skill, but I’m not sure how. I looked at a middle school English textbook for exercises, but they were too easy. How, as an adult, outside of classes, can I work on my writing skills? Are there resources for that? I worry that because I’m used to writing, and my writing receives positive feedback, that I’m not as careful about it or I don’t remember “the rules” as well as I should. I wonder if I make usage errors that maybe other people aren’t catching. I reread what I write ..read more

Does anyone know of a word processor (free OR paid) that's *not* connected to or sharing its subscribers' inputs (documents, data, etc.) with OpenAI or any other AI company, generative or otherwise?

Google (all products) and Microsoft (office suite & all Windows machines) either use user input for their own generative AI products (Google) or share everything typed into its products and machines (Microsoft) with OpenAI to train OA's models. (So, yeah, the novel you've been working on for 10 years that's saved locally, the spreadsheet with your family budget, proprietary or confidential client information...even if you haven't shared it publicly*, it's been stolen. (*as stated in a lawsuit against OpenAI that has since been dropped, dismissed without prejudice, and may be filed again ..read more

Perspective on Content Writing “position”

Just looking for some outside perspective. Since Jan/Feb 2021 I’ve been doing freelance (unpaid) articles (4-500 words) for an up and coming media/entertainment site focused on minority arts and culture. In all I’ve done at least 40/50 articles during that time period. Now this year I finally reached out to the owner about pay and began to get the run around. Finally had a more clear conversation this month where the business is still pretty much in the red and the few core employees/contributors (say 7/8 total) are not even getting paid themselves but rather putting their own personal funds ..read more

Because all of the work I have done over the past five years was ghostwritten and I signed an NDA that prevents me from approaching clients to get the OK to use work I've written for them in my portfolio and also because I don't think that work is really the kind of work I want to show off anyway, I've started working on some portfolio pieces to post on my blog. It's really freeing to be able to write about what I want to write about in the way I want to write it, but I do find myself having to remind myself that I don't need to crank this content out in 2 hours max and I'm not obligated to t ..read more

Direction in a Freelance World

Hi there. I have been a sporadic freelance writer for several years. My initial dalliances into the ‘sector’ were bolstered hugely by a relatively cheap course I undertook which proved to give real insights for those people just starting out… One thing that has remained illusive to me is where to concentrate my efforts to get my profession conclusively up and running. I have only recently stepped back into the market and am getting the familiar feeling of being overwhelmed. I’d appreciate any guidance or advice from any established FLWs out there as to what is a sound direction to head in is ..read more

I’ll preface this by saying I love talking about my career as a medical writer and connecting with other writers and giving advice. I have only been full time freelance for about 4 years, but I’ve had a really successful career so far. And this is not to toot my own horn, but I recognize that this makes me a target for people breaking into the field. I get a few messages a month on LinkedIn from new/aspiring medical writers and I am always kind and helpful (probably to a fault). That said, I’m hitting a kindness limit. I am SO over people connecting with me just to ask me to connect them with ..read more

What to do?

I'm 16 and I would say Im quite good at writing and want to do something with it. I would prefer to do something on fiverr. Now I've finished school, I have loads of time to actually do something but what to do is my problem. Do I stick to creating loads of gigs about something 'simple' like article writing or indulge in something a little more technical like copywriting? submitted by /u/Longjumping-Book2649 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
