Let me be honest. Seeing the total eclipse was not at the top of my bucket list. It seemed like a lot of hype and fuss for a few brief minutes of watching the Moon block the Sun.
But I have two sons, Jonathan and Christopher, who are science nerds and have been looking forward to seeing the eclipse for years. We all live in different parts of California, nowhere near the “path of totality.” So, we all planned a trip together to see the total eclipse. Was witnessing the spectacle worth it?
My Expectations
Like most people, I had seen several partial eclipses during my lifetime. The Moon gradual ..read more

This last year, hubby and I have been navigating retirement. My husband turns 65 this year and just received his Medicare card in the mail. That means now it’s time to start navigating Medicare. I’m not too far behind – I’ll qualify for Medicare in a year and a half.
Although relieved that this time has arrived, we want to understand the ins and outs of Medicare to ensure we receive the medical coverage we need. I downloaded Medicare’s official handbook, which I confess was overwhelming and gave me a headache. This was more complicated than I thought.
So, if this describes you and you ..read more

It’s time for quiet reflection as the calendar turns another page and we find ourselves at the threshold of a new year.
With the promise of new beginnings, we have a chance to reflect on lessons learned and moments cherished during the last year. To gain perspective, applaud personal growth, examine life lessons, and celebrate accomplishments.

As a retired boomer, affordable travel is more important than ever. Want to know how hubby and I traveled to Greece on a budget? What were our favorite places in this unique and fascinating country? When is the best time to visit Greece? How did we avoid the crowds?
Read on!
Exploring Greece on a Budget
When I first started searching for a bargain, package deals that included airfare and hotels cost as much as $6,000 per person.
So, when I saw a deal on Travelzoo for $900 per person for a 7-day trip that included airfare from Los Angeles to Athens, from Athens to Santorini, from Santorini ..read more

Now that we have all these streaming services, is it too much of a good thing?
I was pondering this question as I debated whether to watch Out of Africa, one of my favorite movies, for the zillionth time. Even though I love this movie, after seeing it so many times, it’s lost some of its allure. Captain Ron and Overboard are two of my favorite comedies, but they aren’t quite as funny when I know all the lines.
Is it just me or does having access to all our favorite movies make them less special?

Yup, turns out I’m a mosquito magnet. WHY ME?
Are you a mosquito magnet?
By the way, did you know August 20th is World Mosquito Day. What? I know there’s a day for everything, but why the heck are we celebrating these malicious insects? But then I read that this day commemorates the important discovery that female mosquitoes transmit malaria between humans. Okay, I get that.
But I still want to know why skeeters love me so much. Mosquito bites really suck! Excuse the pun.
Hubby hasn’t been bit once all summer, which is SO irritating. Puh-leeze! Make me less irresistible somehow!
