I was SO all-around impressed with Sylvia. She is involved in band and theatre and is interested in science and backpacking, among other things. Rounding out this year’s senior reps is Harper, another dancer from Blacksburg. She’s a busy girl, with a full dance class schedule, teaching duties, and swimming on the side. Meet Abbey, my senior rep from Radford High School. I’ve known Abbey since she was a little girl, because we went to the same church. She has always been confident and beautiful, with a contagious smile and vivacious personality. I was really happy when she applied to be one of my three senior representatives, because I knew her red curls and soulful brown eyes would be stunning in photos. When I put out a call for three new senior representatives last spring, I was thrilled when Lindsay was the among the first to respond. She dances at my daughter’s studio, which means I’ve watched her on stage for years now… including as the routine leader in Caroline’s very first recital dance. In addition to dance, Lindsay plays tennis and is on the diving team, and she even runs her own local business selling beautiful vegan candles and wax melts. My social media news feeds are full of medals and scoreboards and proud parents right now. ‘Tis the season for competitive swimming, dancing, cheering, and track, and the warm weather is reminding us that soccer and baseball and softball and tennis are right around the corner, and basketball season is still in process. Something a little unusual happened this year: I got more requests for sessions for senior boys than for girls. I’m not sure why, exactly, but it doesn’t particularly matter. Our local high school seniors are graduating this weekend, so it feels like a good time to share some more of their sessions. These portraits are from Callie’s senior session, which she did last October at Heritage Park in Blacksburg. Addie is one of my senior reps for the class or 2022. She’s involved in choir at BHS and is active in her church, as well. But I will always remember her best as the little fourth grader who played the ukulele in our school’s original Minecraft Musical, way back in… maybe… 2014.
