It’s challenging to break into the ranks of freelance contributors for these publications that have a well-established roster of writers and recipe developers. It took some perseverance and follow-up, after an initial pitch to EatingWell magazine’s features editor Carolyn Malcoun. I pitched the story about Cincinnati’s craft vinegar maker MadHouse in October 2018. In July 2020, I got the green light, then submitted the story and related six recipes in December 2020 and the package ran in the April 2021 i ..read more

When you’re a beloved culinary brand with fans the world over, your 100th anniversary celebration naturally has to include a cookbook. I haven’t actively sought them out, but an unprecedented number of book manuscript editing projects have crossed my desk this summer. I helped a supersmart designer and strategist whom I’ve known for many years craft his first book, on marketing for better-for-you brands. I helped a design business educator with an avid following refine his book full of business and life advice. I copyedited a quick-read book for a video marketing expert. I’m currently copyediting two other book projects. A friend of mine remarked, “well, this is what the universe thinks you should be doing right now.” Apparen ..read more
