I have a client who sought treatment to learn coping skills on how to deal with her stress due to relationships. But we've only focused on the son. Her (adult) son is experiencing some intense mental health problems, appears to be psychosis of some sort. Could be drug related. She reports that he's says everyone needs to kill themselves - mom, family, friends, himself (no plan). She says she calls MCOT and the police when she's especially!worried, and they always say he's "not in danger of hurting himself." So they leave. She took him to a MH hospital and released him without admission. My un ..read more

I work as a case manager in an agency that is county contracted to work with individuals with severe mental illness( schizophrenia, schizoaffective, bi-polar, etc.) who tend to have co-occurring stimulant dependency disorders. We have a client who is calling crisis lines/911 every week due to SI/HI each time he is hospitalized and later discharged because he denies any current SI/HI. Once client gets homes he repeats the patterns of excessive drinking, which then exacerbates his PTSD symptoms of dissociation/ panic attacks or current emotional state and causes him to make SI/HI statement. Hi all! I am graduating in about a week with my bachelor's, and I will be starting a job as a child protective caseworker next month. I am very excited for this career opportunity, but I know that it will be a challenge. I've worked for a child and family support center and a domestic violence shelter, so I have some experience dealing with crises and intense situations. But I know that CPS will likely be much more challenging than what I've experienced. I am working on developing my self care plan to be proactive about mitigating second hand traumatic stress. I've learned about self care as ..read more

Today while seeing a client, when taking a moment to type, they said: "You know, when you think a lot you tend to overthink. And when you overthink, you paint yourself into a corner. And you're like the one that says it's okay to walk on the paint" It got right at my heart, lol! ? What's the most inspirational thing a client has told you? submitted by /u/AsleeplessMSW [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Experience with Centene Care Management?

Anyone here ever work with Centene/MHS case management, specifically behavioral health? I have a final nterview this week and am just overall anxious from switching from the hospital setting to working from home and only talking to patients over the phone. I feel like I will be extremely bored. I am well aware that the pay is extreme better, and there are opportunities for growth, which are my main reasons for applying. Anyone else have any input on this type of employment? Pros and cons? Regrets? Thanks! submitted by /u/ck_zaza [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Mandated reporting dilemma

I have a 12 year old patient that recently disclosed providing nudes to someone she was dating on the internet. This person has since been threatening her and has posted them on social media. I recommended that she connect with NCMEC cybertipline with their information. Right now I do not know if this other person is a minor or any other information about them but was wondering if you would take further action to report this. It isn't someone who is responsible for them in any way. submitted by /u/Acrobatic-Pop6623 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Am I being taken advantage of?

Hello everyone, long story short the agency I am currently placed at was hinting to me that they wanted to hire me last semester. With it now being the end of my time at this agency, I’ve now been told that there isn’t any funding to hire me. Despite this, on the last week of my placement one of my supervisors (not my LMSW supervisor) decided to give me a data list with over 500 clients that needed information updated in our database. It is currently my last day and this project seems very unrealistic to complete with the lack of time I was given and there appears to be an expectation that I ..read more
