Last month we went through the process of seeing if we wanted to move house.  It was a good exercise to do, rather than just talking about it we took the step of getting the house valued and spoke to a mortgage consultant.  It made us reevaluate our thinking, yes we can or should I say could move now but we decided to wait a few more years to see Ruby through university and re gain that capital before we jump. This decision then made me think of a few things we could do to improve our little house for the years we are staying put.  One being replacing the nasty PVC French door ..read more

One of things I promised myself at the beginning of the year was to explore more, making more decisions to bring moments of joy to the everyday, be it visiting new places or making simple changes at home.   It boils down to being more decisive and impulsive rather than being doubtful. At the weekend I was lucky enough to visit Richmond upon Thames, only for the day so couldn’t squeeze everything in but it will all be there for next time.  It is such a beautiful place, it was fun catching the train, how I wish it was as easy up North.  We wandered along the river and meadow ..read more

The Boot Room Dream

Over the last few weeks we have decided to look into moving home, pipe dream maybe but its a small seed planted and hopefully with a little care we can make it grow.  One thing that I would absolutely love is that separate hard working space just off the kitchen, whatever you want to call it or what ever you want to use it for.  Be it a boot room, utility, scullery, pantry, laundry it could possibly be all of them.   Regardless of function it would be fabulous to have that room to keep your shoes from the garden, the washing machine and baskets for laundry, a big butler sink fo ..read more

Winter Skin Care with Votary

Winter skin can be a nightmare, double that nightmare when you are peri menopausal!  Here’s my confession for many many years I just washed my face with soap and moisturized, never  could be bothered with lots of lotions and potions.  I used to suffer with breakouts when I was in my teens to early twenties, then thirties and forties came and went without me really thinking much about my face at all but now I’m right in the thick of the peri menopause and my skin really doesn’t like it.  Out of no where I developed rosacea on my cheeks, luckily not that bad but none the les ..read more

January Rituals

Here we are again right at the beginning of another year stretched out in front of us.  It can sometimes feel overwhelming can’t it.  Over the years I have learned to listen to my body and my own mind, not get caught up in the hullabaloo of social media, what’s good for some certainly isn’t good for me.  I do try to take a step back from all of it in these first few weeks of January, life is hard enough in the depths of Winter at the best of times without the added pressure of being perfect. I tend to take each day as it comes, if inspiration strikes then I’m there waiting to j ..read more

Warming Dishes with Indian Spice Company

There’s nothing better when the days get colder and the nights draw in than cooking up something delicious in the kitchen, be it a quick Friday night dinner or a big Sunday gathering.  What’s best about doing this to my mind is the love, care, time and the best ingredients that make the magic happen. In the Summer, sitting in a field in Wiltshire with my extended family chatting about our dreams and ambitions, Rupert and Alice showed us their prototype designs for their new business they were about to launch, we talked and encouraged and knew that whatever they were passionate about woul ..read more

I’m sitting writing this with a warming cup of tea next to me and a candle burning away as its very dark and rainy outside today.  The perfect time to be putting together this piece about new items joining my Autumn wardrobe.  My staple pieces that get worn over and over on a daily basis through this beautiful season are denim and cord.  Both are wonderful to dress up or down, layer up or just wear on their own, socks and boots, tights and trainers no matter which option you choose they simply work.   I fell in love with the cut of both the Indigo Denim Neat Shir ..read more

Hand Cream Goodness with VERDEN

The older I get the more I notice my hands, over the last few years hand cream has become one of my best friends.  I couldn’t be without it, a simple process of treating your hands to the ritual of keeping them supple and soft is something we all should try to do.  I somehow manage to always have my hands in water, washing up, being in the swimming pool, cleaning them after gardening, our hands do quite a bit during the day, I’m rubbish at keeping nail varnish nice and chip free but I always have a tube of hand cream not too far away to replenish my skin. The wonderful team at VERDE ..read more

Autumnal Moments

I felt the shift today, Autumn is taking hold.  I’m sat typing this completely on my own which is a novel experience.  The house hasn’t been this empty with just me in it for many many years, Ruby off at University and Robert on a quite exciting conference for work, so its just me and the radio for company.  So I thought it was time to switch things up and add more seasonal things to my home.  Bringing in foliage and foraged elements that I’ve collected and dried over the year, which make wonderful displays without having to change for weeks and weeks.  Gathe ..read more

Simple corners of my home that keep me grounded when things around me are changing.  The last few weeks at the end of Summer have been focused on other things at home, work has taken a back seat for a while and I’m ever so grateful that I’ve been able to take this time to be here getting Ruby ready to fly the nest at the weekend.  It’s all been building up to this moment and tomorrow is the day we pack the car and drive her to University. It has also made me think about the choices we have made over the last 18 years, I do worry a little about what I am going to do next week!  ..read more
