Following several incredible trips around Yellowstone National Park we’ve seen that it’s actually really important to understand what’s at each of the geyser basins. This guide is all about the Biscuit Basin, a lesser known and pretty awesome geyser area very near Old Faithful. We’re sharing what geysers are at Biscuit Basin, photography tips, and how to add it to your time in Yellowstone National Park. UPDATE: on July 23, 2024 there was a major geothermal eruption at Biscuit Basin. The Black Diamon Pool unexpectedly erupted, spewing hot water, gasses and rocks into the air. Tourists ran from ..read more

For all the times I drove past it I had never stayed at the Seward Windsong Lodge on the Kenai Peninsula until visiting with my family. It was a great homebase for us as we experienced all that Kenai Fjords National Park has to offer. With accommodations in Alaska running the gamut from lacking to luxury, the Seward Windsong Lodge was just the right balance for us. We’ve got all the details of what to expect and how to plan a great visit to Seward and Kenai Fjords National Park. If you have a ..read more

I may be addicted to watching wildlife, and there’s nothing wrong with that. I love getting to see creatures in their natural habitat and safely observe them, photographing their movements and unique characteristics. There is so much wildlife in Kenai Fjords National Park that it warrants its own guide and tips for photography in the park. Since I’ve been to the park at least 20 times (probably 30+ in reality) I’ve got some great tips for enjoying the wildlife in Kenai Fjords National Park. I’ve hiked and been on many boats, visited with kids and gone on my own. I hope you enjoy the photos an ..read more

I’ve been to Kenai Fjords National Park no fewer than 20 times. It’s in my top five favorite National Parks close behind Hawaii Volcanoes NP, Yellowstone, Glacier NP and Dry Tortugas National Park. Kenai Fjords is wonderfully unique in that much of it is only accessible / viewable from the water, which makes experiencing the park an adventure. With so many visits, including exploring Kenai Fjords National Park (KFNP) with our kids, we’ve got lots of information and tips for making your time at the park awesome, including exploring Seward a bit. If you have any questions about KFNP or planning ..read more

We’ve been fortunate to get to take the kids to Glacier National Park many times in several seasons. Due to forest fires and weather, we’ve visited when most of the Park was closed and we’ve been when everything is open. Either way, we always have a great time on the eastern side of Glacier National Park in particular. Whether there’s something preventing you from accessing Logan Pass or Polebridge, or if you’re just planning to be based on the east side of Glacier NP, we’ve got lots of suggestions for hikes. It’s amazing how different Glacier National Park is from Yellowstone National Park ..read more

Staying at the Prince of Wales Hotel in Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta is about as close to staying in a castle as you can get in North America. Sure, there is the Banff Springs Hotel to the north and the Chateau Frontenac in Quebec, but as far as a medieval/Nordic castle goes, the Prince of Wales Hotel is the best option. Built in 1927 this wooden, icing covered castle is wonderfully unique and met all of our expectations for staying in this antique gem. We’ve got the full scoop on what to expect from your visit and great ideas for exploring Waterton Lakes National Park in Alberta. Ha ..read more
