Today our class learned what the green circles mean! Check Out: Another Week in the Clubhouse: Check out is how we end a week of learning in our classroom. Everyone has a chance to share a memory from the past week and a learning wish for the next week. I take this time very seriously. I pay attention to what kinds of things stand out in student memories, and I try to make every wish come true. Here are the notes from our check out meeting on Friday, October 23 2020 ..read more

Listen!

Morning Science/Snack: Yogurt in Tubes can be solid or liquid. Listen! Today is our 26th day together. Today, I timed how long our class could pay attention to me for.  I stopped timing after an hour, but they kept paying attention for a lot longer than that.  They were all born in 2013, and some of them are still only 6 years old. How did they all do that? How did 17 very young children pay attention to me talking for over an hour? It wasn’t magic. It was because I spent 26 days teaching them how to pay attention and listen! Here is a picture of my class listening to their Drama ..read more

The Clubhouse kids published their second piece of writing today!  Together, we wrote and illustrated a book called “The Clubhouse is Thankful“. I Am Thankful! Written by: Mohamad I am thankful for my friends. My friends are important. They play with me. My friends care about me. That is why I am thankful for my friends. I Am Thankful! Our first class writing project is based on a special text by Margaret Wise Brown called The Important Book.  10 students have published their writing already, and more will be featured in this weeks “Check Out” post. Classroom copies are being printed on individual sheets for illustration before I publish them together in an illustrated hard copy book.  Someday soon, I hope the children will be able to have a turn to take our important book home to share with families. In the meantime, enjoy this special sneak preview. I’ll share a link to the original text at the end of this post ..read more
