Hi there, just seen the lights for the first time! Was wondering what the white wavy lines were in the lights? The lights were mainly green and purple, just had these white solid lines in two places. Was it maybe just my camera? submitted by /u/katemac45 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I once read about an idea to nuke the Sahara desert

There are some obvious concerns about using nukes to get shit done, but in the craze of global warming and climate change, it doesn't seem to be too far fetched to nuke the Sahara and let sea water flow into its depressions. I have yet to stumble upon a map that shows a before / after comparison, but the few vids I watched were very optimistic. It would cause a drastic change in climate, allowing it to grow vegitation, because now there is a lot of rainfall, making it hospitable. I am not entirely informed and I would like to read other peoples opinion, pro's and cons, etc. submitted by /u/O ..read more

The Western world (dark blue) as defined by Samuel P. Huntington: in light blue are Latin America and the Orthodox world, which, according to Huntington, are either a part of the West or distinct cultures intimately related to the West

What's up with Algeria?

It's the biggest and one of the richest countries in Africa yet it's rarely talked about. It has a population of 45 million, and Algiers is one of the biggest cities in the Arab world. It appears that Algeria has decent relations with most countries, albeit leaning a bit more towards non western. Why is it overlooked so much? submitted by /u/dababy4realbro123 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
