The Bachelor of Development Studies is currently available as a combined degree with Business, Laws and Social Sciences. Excitingly, starting in 2020, it will also be available as a combined degree with Global Indigenous Studies.  The collaborative degree will draw on expertise from within the Faculty of Science and The Wollotuka Institute. We would have all heard the common stereotypes “vegans don’t eat anything that casts a shadow”, “they just eat grass”, “it’s not healthy, protein comes from meat” and “vegans need to take too many vitamins”. This month, Amnesty International a non-for-profit organisation is setting out to raise awareness and money to improve human rights around the globe through an even called AmnesTea. Anybody can be involved, including this family of six in Ireland who opened up their garden to visitors and collected money for Amnesty International Ireland. “Human rights recognise the inherent value of each person, regardless of background, where we live, what we look like, what we think or what we believe.” What are human rights? NAIDOC week is a yearly celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s culture, history and achievements. This year the focus is on ‘Voice, Treaty, Truth’ with events held across the nation. In Newcastle you can join in some of the celebrations hosted by Local Land Council, Awabakal kicking off 9:30 am at Civic Park on Monday 8 July 2019.
