Giving and Receiving Feedback
Year 2 Champs
by Mrs Wolfenden

Acting on feedback is a great way to improve. The Year 2 Champs have been working on giving each other feedback and, more importantly, listening to and acting on the feedback they have been given – not always an easy thing to do. To start with, the children were asked to copy a picture of either a butterfly or a beetle. Then they were asked to give very specific feedback to each other on the shape of their drawings.  From this first draft, they went through several more drafts until their final products, each time acting on feedback given.  Have a look at the photos and see the huge diffe ..read more

Hex Patterns – Rotational Symmetry
Year 2 Champs
by Mrs Wolfenden
4y ago
You may have seen our hex patterns up at our windows.  In Mathematics, hex means six.  That’s why a hexagon has six sides.  We cut a circle into six equal parts and decorated them exactly the same.  Then we turned the parts and returned them to a circle shape – some rotational symmetry.  We think they look great! What did you like best about doing the hex patterns?  Did you use language like ‘slide’ and ‘turn ..read more

Slides and Turns with Ozobots and Beebots
Year 2 Champs
by Mrs Wolfenden
4y ago
We have been practising our slides and turns with the ozobots.  We had instructions that we drew out of a cup, then we had to get the ozobot to follow the instruction.  Some of the instructions included:  quarter turn clockwise, slide forwards, half turn anticlockwise, slide right.  There was lots of really good Maths language being used by the children as they worked with the ozobots.   See more slides and turns with Beebots ..read more

Part, Part, Whole – how numbers can be broken down in to parts
Year 2 Champs
by Mrs Wolfenden
4y ago
Recently we spent some time exploring the concept of part, part, whole.  A number can be broken into parts, which can then be added back together again to make the whole.  For example, 2 + 4 (parts) = 6 (whole). We played a card game where we drew two cards and held one to our forehead without looking.  Our partner could see both cards, but we could only see one.  The partner would tell us what the two cards added to, and we’d have to work out what the card was that we couldn’t see. Then we made part, part, whole butterflies, where we started with 3 numbers and we had to write the 4 ..read more

Year 2 Champs
by Mrs Wolfenden
4y ago
We have been working on creating some really interesting and unusual similes, ones that put pictures in your head.  The children were given lists of nouns and verbs and asked to use them to create these similes.  Have a look at some of the ones they’ve come up with: A tower fell like leaves into a handbag… Dean The mirror slept as quietly as a mouse…  Sunny The baby raindrop cascaded down the rainbow as bright as sunlight… Mini The apple cascaded off the tree like a falling leaf… Annika A smile giggled like sunlight… Ella The mirror looked like a sparkling star… Aiden The apple smiled like gi ..read more

We know that apostrophes can be used for two different purposes – to show ownership or for contractions.  For our car crash contractions, we patched up the words using a bandaid to show where the apostrophe would go.  The video below shows all our car crashes.   Car Crash Contractions 2017 – Kizoa Movie – Video – Slideshow Maker ..read more
