I've spent many hours shooting street photography in the first couple of months of 2024 and wanted to share some of my favourite photos here in this blog. I've only been shooting on the streets of Liverpool as I don't see any point in travelling as the city is still new and fresh. Unlike most of last year I've been shooting alone and I'm finding that relaxing, I do miss being on the streets with other photographers as we can inspire each other, yet sometimes it’s nice just to play some music and be alone with my mindfulness. As I'm writing this blog the weather is starting to change and it’s ..read more

The Year of the Dragon

2024 is the year of the dragon and the first time I’d seen the Chinese new year celebrations in Liverpool and I have to say they pull out all the stops. I’ve been to many of the new year celebrations in London and yet Liverpool’s celebrations go on for 3 days. I had no idea that Liverpool Chinatown is home to the oldest Chinese community in Europe, the iconic Chinese Ceremonial archway into Chinatown is incredible and I highly recommend checking it out if you visit the city. Sunday marked the grand finale which I didn’t want to miss, the trouble for me was the crowds of people and as I’ve said ..read more

Fire

Saturday 27th January a four storey building caught fire sending huge plumes of smoke of the city, so camera in hand I headed to the scene of the fire. By the time I had arrived the police had cordoned off the surrounding area. I was still able to get close enough to take some photos. There was 12 fire engines on scene and over 50 fire fighters when I arrived. I spent time walking around the different streets looking for the best places to get a good view of what was happening. The building which was an abandoned warehouse was almost gone when I arrived and yet I was still able to capture som ..read more

Snow

I don’t know about you, but I watch the weather forecast every winter hoping and praying I hear the word snow. I wait every year for snow and we usually get nothing. I thought moving north would help my chances, yet it seems I’ve moved to the wrong place and it is rare Liverpool sees snow, this has to do with the river and being close to the sea…D’oh With all that being said it has snowed a few times since I’ve lived here and this past week we got a few nights of snow and of course I had to be out in it. Liverpool looks so beautiful when the snow has settled especially along the river. The tr ..read more

Black Hole - End of time

Lasers, lights, smoke and music for a photographer like me is a dream come true and there was no way I was going to miss it. Like many of us who grew up in the 1980s (the greatest decade), we all remember Jean-Michel Jarre and his laser light shows from different parts of the world. Well, one person who was influenced by his music and shows is Paul Alty (Below). Paul had put together a 30-minute immersive show called Black Hole - End of Time in this wonderful old Christ church in Waterloo, Merseyside. I booked 2 tickets for myself and my wife on Saturday evening the second night. I took my ca ..read more

Umbrellas, plastic bags and yes even paper bags people will try anything to stay dry when the rain comes unexpectedly and as always I’m there with my camera ready to document these wonderful moments. People being caught out in the rain always has me thinking, why don’t they watch the weather forecast of course today we all have the weather updates at our fingertips, yet so many of us get caught out when the rain comes. I love seeing people running trying to beat the rain of course they never do and they always end up drenched, perfect for a street photographer to capture. There’s also the vari ..read more

Halloween weekend

This year halloween falls on a Tuesday and therefore Saturday night was the party night where everyone is dressed up and ready full a night of horror, fun and yes lets not forget the drinking. This is only my second Halloween in Liverpool and I really wanted to make the most of it. I headed into the city just after 5pm ready for a great night but to my surprise I found the city to be as dead as a cemetery that being said it didn’t take long for that to change. When I got to bold street I found the start of a street parade for Halloween which I had no idea was happening and I jumped right in sh ..read more
