Throughout the winter and spring, Lutherville students partnered with the Department of Natural Resources and volunteers from Trout Unlimited to raise rainbow trout.
Our 4th graders recently spent the day at Historic Jerusalem Mills – exploring hiking trails, testing water quality, sampling macroinvertbrates, releasing 187 trout fingerlings, creating “plein air” watercolors, and acting out predator-prey relationships.
Thank you to our students, who were engaged and respectful through the day. Another thank you to the parents and family members who chaperoned and took photos. It was a ..read more

Lutherville recently welcomed over 30 judges from the local STEM community, including the Greater Baltimore Medical Center, the Space Telescope Institute, Towson University, and Sun Trust Bank.
After enjoying luncheon provided by families of our 4th and 5th graders, our volunteer judges reviewed the scoring criteria and judging questions with staff members, then headed to the classrooms for an afternoon of discussion with our student scientists.
We are so appreciative of the time that our judges shared with our students and their willingness to be an authentic audience for our students ..read more

Fifth graders are currently working on their STEM Fair projects. Students in Mrs. Zagurski’s homeroom recently visited the iLab where they discussed Growth Mindset and how this mindset helps them succeed.
Here’s the video we watched (hint: your teacher will need to share this video on your class white board, since they will need to log in with their teacher credentials).
In the video, we learn that through practice we can train our brain. By doing this, things that once seemed hard get easier.
Let’s start a conversation. What is something that you have learned that got easier once ..read more

Last week, Jim Tingey visited the Environmental Club to share information about our rainbow trout and our tank. He gave us different-sized food to try in our tank since our trout are growing. Mr. Tingey is a volunteer from Trout Unlimited who helps us with our Trout in the Classroom program.
Our guest also shared his original fish watercolors.
Mr. Tingey next showed students shark teeth that were found in Morocco and told us that the teeth were 24 million years old! Students got to observe and touch the teeth, then chose a fossilized tooth to take home.
Mr. Tingey will be visiting o ..read more
