Navigating the New Boss Carousel

Someone told me recently about what a company had committed to. I found that interesting because companies and cultures change with new leadership. I have witnessed it myself in ticking off the list of direct managers I saw come and go while I served in different roles. I heard pity in the voices of interviewers. Still, leaders change.  Expectations change. One lesson that sticks with me was what I heard from a talk during my LWT: Advancing Women in LeadershipCohort where the leader mentioned performing a heroic lift for her company, earning much internal praise. “It’s not what they call you, it’s what you answer to.” ~ African Proverb In my Spring, now Summer, reading I am exploring fantasy series where I get to imagine magic as the skills and gifts we bring to the world. I noticed more often than not women were referred to as ‘Princess’ initially as a term of endearment except for one instance where one woman was referred to as ‘my Queen.’ In all three series I’m thinking of, the women ascended to become queens. I don’t know if I really knew what it was but I said yes and got to go. Early on in the experience I sketched the word Scared on the front cover of my notebook. I have no idea why. The best I can figure it in looking ..read more

My commitment to continuous learning means that everything I do is designed to help me be better in supporting professionals during their journey to career satisfaction. I relaunched my book club internally and then opened it to the public with the idea that everyone who participates could read different books and still come back to discuss it for deeper learning. During this last season, I craved fun reading where I could be entertained. To my delight, a non-coaching related book that was recommended to me began my journey into reading book series that involve magic. Some of the books and ..read more

Need someone to give you a chance? What if that One is You? Here are three ways you can help decision-makers see when going with you is a no-brainer: Connect the Dots: Help decision makers choose you by connecting the dots even if you think it is obvious. Chances are it is only obvious to you, especially when leaders can have many things on their minds at once. Get More Information: If you don’t have enough information to connect the dots, ask questions because the more you know the better you can position yourself as the right choice. Take Ownership: The trend is to create a career path i ..read more
