We’d launched this project on November 17 in response to the ongoing genocide in Gaza. (The tagline “One World, One Struggle” was coined by Irish justice activists. We used it with permission from the famed Irish organizer Tony Doherty.) Yousef’s co-conspirators on the PalCast are Just World Ed’s own Helena Cobban, co-host, and To ..read more

The tributes have been proliferating everywhere to the memory and legacy of our friend Dr. Refaat Alareer, murdered by Israel on December 7 in Gaza, along with six of his family members. One of the most potent forms of tribute we have seen has been the production and distribution in scores of world languages of translations of “If I Must Die”, the iconic poem in English that on November 1, Refaat pinned to the top of his Twitter (X) account: (Beneath it there is the last tweet he ever posted, dated December 4. It feels apt for us to keep it there.) The potent imagery that Refaat conjured up ..read more

We are sad to report that on the evening of December 6, the Israeli military killed our friend Dr. Refaat Alareer in northern Gaza, in what was apparently a targeted assassination. Refaat, born in 1979, was a beloved professor of English Literature and Literature in English at the Islamic University of Gaza. He edited a powerful anthology, Gaza Writes Back: Short Stories by Young Writers in Gaza, Palestine (2014), and co-edited another, Gaza Unsilenced (2015). Nixon’s National Security Advisor from January 1969 until Nixon’s resignation in November 1975. In September 1973, as the Watergate scandal was starting to build up around Nixon, Nixon (unprecedently) gave Kissinger the additional role of Secretary of State, in which he was confirmed by the Senate. After Nixon’s resignation in August 1974, Kissinger continued in both roles under Pres. Ford. Ford replaced him as NatSec Advisor in Nov ..read more

We’re pleased to post this commentary, with permission, that was penned earlier today by Amb. Chas W. Freeman, Jr., a former U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defense and former ambassador to Saudi Arabia by Chas. W. Freeman, Jr. This war puts paid to israeli-Saudi normalization but that was never a real prospect.  The Israeli ministry of strategic affairs (i.e. “hasbara” or propaganda) has touted normalization as a “game changer for the Middle East.”  Not so.  It would, however, be a game changer for both Joe Biden and Benjamin Netanyahu in their respective domestic politics.  B ..read more
