WPOW and HumanEYES USA are pleased to announce the recipient of the Lena Grant, photographer, Moriah Ratner, for her project “Live Like Lola”. Moriah was awarded $3,000 to continue her work with 13-year old Lola Muñoz, who is learning how to grapple with the ways in which diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, a terminal brain cancer, has become a limitation on her childhood.

WPOW and HumanEYES USA are pleased to announce the Lena Grant, funded by WPOW and Molly Roberts, creator of HumanEYES, WPOW Board Member and Senior Photo Editor at National Geographic. The Lena Grant is named in honor of Lena Wallace, Roberts’ great-grandmother and one of her biggest inspirations. She was a real pioneer woman who lived with grace and wonderful compassion while suffering from debilitating rheumatoid arthritis, and she never stopped pushing ahead. CHARLOTTESVILLE,VA-AUG11: Chanting “White lives matter!” “You will not replace us!” and “Jews will not replace us!” several hundred white nationalists and white supremacists carrying torches marched through the University of Virginia campus last night.

The biggest perk of being an editor (for me) is the opportunity to collaborate with other photographers. The photographers I want to hire are the ones that I trust to understand the vision for an assignment, to execute it, and then take it a step further. I want to hire somebody I know will care enough to push themselves not just to take a picture, but to make a picture.
