Follwing the tracks South. It is better to travel well that to arrive. BY… I left Busan, South Korea, where I have been liviving for a while and decided to travel to Thailand and Cambodia for a month. I wanted to go on a photo adventure and explore Thailand again. My first visit was in 2003 when I was living and teaching in Taiwan. Haulampong station was my connection point for most of my journeys. I left Bangkok to Phuket at 18;00 in the evening and took the overnight train to Suratani. I wanted to travel low cost, the cheapest way possible. I gave up my creature comforts for the month o ..read more

"Artists have challenged art by situating it in non-art contexts. ‘Street’ artists do not aspire to change the definition of an artwork, but rather to question the existing environment with its own language. They attempt to have their work communicate with everyday people about socially relevant themes in ways that are informed by aesthetic values without being imprisoned by them." Puregraffiti.com Artists always challenge themselves creatively. We explore different mediums to express ourselves and to communicate our messages or to give commentary on our life ..read more

I get to work with students from all over the world. I do regular interviews for blogs and articles and I get interviewed by many students doing research in the field of photojournalism. I was contacted by a student this week, working on a thesis in photojournalism and he asked me a couple of questions in regards to image manipulation. This has sparked some thoughts and I wrote this article based on my ideas and opinions around image manipulation and my work as a photographer and photojournalist. In my work as a photojournalist over the last couple of years I have be ..read more

Some experiences can't be photographed. I have traveled extensively in the last 18 years and even though I have boxes of old photographs and hard drives full of new memories, sometimes experiences cannot be photographed and photographs cannot capture a moment as it was lived. Words can paint a better picture. There were experiences I had whilst travelling, that touched me, that could not be photographed. These experiences are etched into my memory like old photographs and I am left with warmth in my heart when I revisit these memories. When I close my eyes, I can be transported back to that p ..read more

I am currently busy going through my archives and will share the most memorable photo-stories and experiences that I had as a photojournalist on the blog. Most of the work that I shot as a press photographer/photojournalist in South Africa was under the guidance of Picture Editors, Garth Stead and Sharief Jaffer. Both these talented individuals had a big impact on me as a photojournalist and also photographer. I am forever grateful for the opportunities I had working as a contract photojournalist under their guidance at Media 24. I started at Die Burger in August 2007 and left the newspapers i ..read more

I was asked to submit 5/6 of my best photographs of my career for a project that I am being considered for, about a week ago.  It was a tough call as I have so many favorite photographs. My career is going in two directions, firstly I am a photojournalist and travel photographer but I have also done a lot of weddings and portrait shoots. To look back on a career of seven years and choose the best is a huge task. I am sure there are loads of photographs that I have forgotten about. Also, I was rather busy with shoots and editing the last two months that I did not really have ..read more

Photography Workshop in Gimhae, South Korea In January and February this year I did photography workshops with a group of 10 year old Korean student photographers. With my guidance they explored the art elements, lines, textures, shapes, forms and colors in their immediate surroundings with photography. We had classes where difficult and challenging photographic concepts were explained to them in English. With the little Korean that I know and their broken English we had loads of fun. With the new knowledge gained after each theory class, we took exploration walks around the schoo ..read more

It has been a while since I wrote on the blog. So much has changed in my life as a photographer and also working photojournalist over the last three years. I will be more active on the blog in the future as I have finally found the direction I want to follow with this blog and also in my career.  I did not want to remove or erase all the articles and work that I did for the newspapers in South Africa. I need to keep all this work as reference off my growth and personal development as a photojournalist and photographer.  Most of the stories that I covered and tha ..read more

They live in one of the poorest communities in Delft of the Cape Flats. Only 30 km from the beautiful and cosmopolitan city of Cape Town. This is a forgotten community that are kept hostage by their unfortunate circumstances. They are subjected to violent crimes, rape and robberies everyday. Most families live in substandard living conditions and most of them are dependent on the goodwill of others. Blikkiesdorp was built by the City of Cape Town in 2007 by the current premier Helen Zille, she was the mayor of Cape Town at the time. Blikkiesdorp is the Afrikaans word derived from Tin Can Town ..read more
