Vietnam’s clam and oyster exports to China surge nearly 120-fold

Vietnam’s clam and oyster exports to China have soared, achieving a total value exceeding US$2.7 million in the first five months of the year, marking a 119-fold increase from the same period last year.

USDA’s Foreign Agriculture Service released a report last month detailing the distribution channels for live seafood in China, potential market opportunities, and updates for 2024.
As the world’s largest consumer of seafood China is also the world’s largest seafood producer, mostly due to aquaculture.

China has announced that it will maintain import tariffs on seafood at 2023 levels, with provisional lower rates already in place for 24 products, including salmon, tuna, and shrimp. The majority of seafood imports fall under most-favored-nation tariff rates, according to the State Council Customs Tariff Commission.
