“I haven’t heard about you for long time, is everything ok?” “I hope you have been well, haven’t seen you posting anything for long time.” “How have you been? Haven’t heard about you..” I’ve been having these lovely heart warming messages from all of you guys. It is so lovely  and also surprising to notice how so many people from all over the world miss you, when you are “off grid” for little while. Or… in my case, little more than just “little while”. Answer to all of Your questions. Yes! Everything is fine, better than fine. I have new love in my life, who is taking me and my dogs in ad ..read more

How to speed up your coloring process?
Fine Art Anne

Barn Owl with colored pencils This is a technique I have not seen other artist using, even though it speeds up the coloring process a lot, when working with Colored Pencils. Keep in mind, that this may take time to master. What I do is,  I scratch my pencil on sand paper, then dip my brush on OMS and then I mix that OMS to the pencil dust and make a kind of paint that I use for painting those base colors. After that I go everything over with pencils. This saves me so much time because I can get close enough colors in the base layers, I get that white of the paper covered quickly an ..read more

I was asked to do this kind of tutorial, where you guys can color the same picture as I do and I try to explain some methods I use when doing colored pencil pieces. I will color this Pixies and Hummingbird picture Live at my YouTube channel. You can purchase that picture from my sellfy.com/fineartanne account. So, how did I start my piece? Firstly I want to emphasis the importance of right kind of paper. Because this is going to be a colored pencil piece, the paper you are using should not be to rough, especially when doing as detailed picture as this. I like to use hot pressed watercolor pape ..read more

Blending Colored Pencils with Powder Blender from Brush and Pencil
Fine Art Anne

About a year ago I saw this video from Lachri Fine Art, where she used this new blending product designed just for Colored Pencils. It’s called Powder Blender and I was so exited when I saw this! As colored pencil artist know, this is very slow medium and making smooth blending on your backgrounds can take you for ever! Another problem we usually have is to get white highlights on your drawings to show really white, because light colors don’t usually show well over darker colors. But Brush and Pencil had made product for this too. Some artist use gel pens or white paint to make those high ..read more

I’m so honored to be included in Colored Pencil Magazine this month (December 2016) issue. I was invite to share my Hummingbird drawing in the Gallery section of the Magazine and I’m so proud now. This kind of recognitions are so important in artist life and gives that well needed boost for future. Colored Pencil Magazine December 2016 To me, different social media sites and art groups where I’m in, are so important. Life of an artist is quite lonely sometimes. Although I do have a separate day job where I meet other people, it is still so nice to be a part of art community that un ..read more

Rainbow Hummingbird with primary colors
Fine Art Anne

I decided to do little  color study and use only 3 primary color for coloring this hummingbird. How many colors and shades you can achieve using only 3 pencils? And yes, I used Pigma Micron pen for those outlines, but other than that and Caran d’Ache colorless full blender pencil, I used only these three Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils: Pink Carmine (127), Cobalt blue – Greenish (144) and Light Chrome Yellow (106). I actually am not so sure if those exact colors are the “right primaries”. I deliberately choose a bit colder red and colder yellow, so that I would get nice bright ..read more

Drawing? Painting? Where to start?
Fine Art Anne

You want to start drawing and painting, but don’t know where to start? First just sit down and take a pencil on your hand and paper on front of you. That blank white paper scares you at first, but no worry. Everything you do here on, is one step forward, and nothing you do is wrong. Even the mistakes are necessary for learning. Masters are not the ones that don’t do mistakes, but those who have done most of them and learned. Keep on going, even if it feels hard and uninspiring. Remember this! Learning doesn’t come over night, it takes time and many many hours of practice. I’ve drawn my whole l ..read more

Aphantasia, and how I see in my mind’s eye
Fine Art Anne

I came across to this condition called Aphantasia. It is condition where one does not possess a functioning mind’s eye and cannot voluntarily visualize imagery. I stopped thinking this. I have always thought that I’m really visual person. And in a way I am. I constantly stop looking things and try to save the image in my mind. But in reality I’ve found that actually I don’t get any sharp “picture” in my mind when I’m thinking something. It is more like monochromatic feel of objects around me. Like everything is clay that I mold in my mind. No colors per say. When I imagine some colo ..read more
