Dearest You, I see you there in the darkness, just like me, the hot tears streaming down your face as your shoulders heave one, two, three. You just finished a day of putting up a tree, wrapping presents, filling stockings and now as your head hits the pillow, you wonder what it was all for. It began in November, just as the Christmas music started playing overhead in all the stores. I know, you tried again this year to be a special elf, bringing merriment to all those around you, instead, you end up more like a grumpy bear who only wants to hibernate and wake up once winter has ended. Why? B ..read more

To Those Who Push Themselves Even When They Are Sick

Dearest You, I see you there in the dark tossing and turning. The humidifier sends a fine mist into the air, leaving you wondering why you still feel like you can’t breathe. Your ears ache, your hands ache. Let’s face it, your whole body aches. It’s been a week of pushing through a sore throat, fever, the constant cough and clearing of your throat, heaviness in your chest, and not being able to breathe out of one nostril or the other. You even dragged your body out of bed at 7 am today because you had laundry to do, groceries to get, a sink full of dishes, and other humans depending on you ..read more

Dearest You, Sunday night came quickly. Your weekend was not perfect. I know you were hoping for one weekend to do absolutely nothing. Instead, you felt the rush of it all, you felt the heaviness of it all. And now as you lay in the warm, dark silence staring at the ceiling, you wonder if it is too late to have a do-over. Date night did not go as planned. You were tired and hungry when the waiter brought the plate of food with a hair in it. The restaurant was crowded and you really did not feel up to going to the movie. You snapped, said something out of turn. Something that triggered us to m ..read more

Dearest You, It is Sunday night again. Here we are like any other night in the dark with the soft glow of a bedside lamp next to us. I know this because I am right here with you. My laptop is laying on the floor beside me. I see yours is there as well. Waiting for you to pick it up, waiting for you to start the tap, tap, tapping of the keys. You went to bed early tonight, didn’t you? After exhaustion set in and you couldn’t go on, you picked up your phone and laptop and headed straight for bed, your legs barely dragging your weary body. This time you didn’t turn on the tv. You just knew once ..read more

Dearest You, It is late Sunday night. Here we are, in the dark, the sound of silence stretching out into the night. The week is about to begin again, with Thanksgiving somewhere towards the end. The holidays can take a toll, can’t they? The winter is creeping into your bones, you feel the days get heavier and darker. The year is coming to a close and you have not accomplished even half of the things on your list. I know you feel like giving up, feeling as if your spark has gone out. I am here to tell you that it hasn’t. I see it. It is still there, the light you have inside. It is a tiny fla ..read more

Everything I own right now fits into three suitcases. I have a large hard-sided suitcase and two smaller ones. In other words, coupled with a leather duffel and a canvas bag, I could take everything I own, carry or wheel it around by myself, board a plane and be gone. Just like that. My entire life packed up neatly, ready for take-off.  I am not going anywhere, however. I am still here, growing my coaching practice, working with clients, and living my life. Except now I am many pounds lighter and free from the burden of all that stuff.  Some of the stuff was given away. The most valuable items ..read more
