A Favorite Resource I was a classroom teacher for twenty four years and can't believe how much time has passed since I left the classroom.  After a very busy few years, I now have the time to go through my house, room by room and box by box.  I have been holding onto some of my favorite teaching resources and as I am going through my house and trying to lighten my load I wasn't sure what to do with all of this stuff.  (I think I was secretly hoping that one of my offspring would need some of these things...)   I  want to share some of these resources before ..read more

Mentor Texts that Demonstrate an Inquiry Mindset  I recently worked on inquiry with a group of dedicated educators. We looked at ways to nurture an inquiry mindset, it was such a fun day of discovery, learning, and inquiring! I am sharing a list of mentor texts that can be used in the classroom to help nurture an inquiry mindset. There is a link to go with each book and can be used with your students if you don't have the book- but honestly, nothing can replace a book, a real book. I am so excited to participate in a blog/book tour for Born Under Fire.  First of all, thank you to Rina Neiman the author for sending me a copy of her story.  Also thank you to Nicole Pyles at theworldofmyimagination.blogspot.com  for the invitation. I am a huge fan of historical fiction especially novels focused on World War 2.  It seems like most of the stories I have read are those from Germany, Europe and the Pacific so this was a totally new read for me.  Rina tells the story of her family and focuses on her mother Shula's story.  Her family is Jewish and live in what will soon becom ..read more
