Life Changes and Street Photography 101

There have been a few changes in my life in the last couple of months. Most notably, as you can see from above, we’ve added a member to our family. It’s been one of those times in life where I’ve mostly just sat back and taken it all in. I’ve not taken a whole lot of photos. I’ve not talked much (aside from on my outlet of a Youtube Channel I use to “escape” from real life). Life can’t stop forever. I can’t stop forever. One thing seeing my little girl has shown me is that I need to not let this photography thing slip away. I need to re-apply myself to it. I need to take it seriously again. A ..read more

Not collecting a M4 MOT

by marty mora I do not collect cameras. Well…at least not because they are rare or special.  To be honest, I have been different type of collector, one who collects in numbers of cameras.  In my prime as a number collector, I had in my possession two medium format cameras along with two different Leica M bodies.  My camera storage space was literally bursting at the seams; it could hold no more, and yet, I was always on the lookout for something else.  Another body, another lens, something else to add to the collection without ever really appreciating what it is that I had ..read more

Workshop, Life, and New Beginnings

Fujifilm X100V. Iksan, South Korea It’s been a while! solidly into 2021 now and things are looking, well, up? I guess? Me? Let’s start with the workshop! The question I get most often about my photography is how do I edit digital photos. People tend to read old blog posts and struggle with the fact that I processed differently then or used different programs or presets. Things change, as do cameras, shooting styles, etc. It’s kinda how we roll, photographers, innit? Well, I decided the best way to go about explaining my process would be to have a couple of seminars where I go over it in detail ..read more

Two Cute Cats

Two Cute Cats. Well, it’s almost Christmas. 2020 has been one helluva year. Not much has been constant for me in 2020 aside from the struggle that is far from mine alone. I feel like I’ve been through it all this year. Started a business destined to fail, lost one of the most important people in my life, made a baby that thankfully won’t call 2020 their birth year. It’s a lot for a year. One Cute Cat. Iksan, 2020. Having spent much of the year at home I had a lot of time for reflection. Self reflection and otherwise. My wife works fairly far away and is only home half of the time. That isn’t e ..read more

Seasons of Change

Jeju Island, South Korea. September 2020. Seasons change. Summer comes and goes. Winter lingers. Fall and spring fleeting. Cliched thoughts. Food for thought. Jeju Island, South Korea. September 2020. September. On a rocky beach in Jeju Island my wife sat and felt the breeze. Thoughts of beginnings and of change. A spring baby. A boy or a girl? A heartbeat? Should we have stayed home? Jeju Island, South Korea. September 2020. Things always work out. Things have a way of working themselves out. This change is exciting. The end of a hot summer. Three seasons remain. A spring baby. The sun must s ..read more

What’s in my “Bag?” (2020)

Wandrd Prvke. Iksan, South Korea. “What’s in your bag?” It’s been a while since someone asked me this. Maybe I’m not as popular as I used to be, ha. Maybe travel is non-existent so no one cares. Probably a bit of both. Wandrd Prvke. Iksan, South Korea. Let me start with a bit of a confession. I am a bit of a bag whore. I mean, I love bags. I like bags more than cameras. True story. The quest for the perfect camera / travel / everyday bag is a long and treacherous one. A scary one. I change bags a lot. I don’t usually even like camera specific bags. It was always a struggle to figure out which ..read more

Rain

Iksan, South Korea. August 2020. Thirty-four of forty days it rained. And not just intermittently. Taking my wife to a test last Saturday water was halfway up the tires of my car and people were treating it as if it were any other day. Iksan, South Korea. August 2020. As if 2020 hadn’t been enough. Sandbags in front of department stores. Iksan, South Korea. August 2020. Rain affects people in different ways. I like rain. I like watching it from my window. I like listening to it while I type or edit. Iksan, South Korea. August 2020. This many days in a “row” though, really hit me hard. Depressi ..read more

Zine Talk

Iksan, South Korea. 2017. First of all, I want to start by thanking those who bought my new zine, Tokyo: 1 Day, 2 Nights. I’m really thankful and super happy to hear how much everyone enjoys it with its new, larger format. It was a difficult decision to make it bigger, because of course that means it also had to be more expensive. Every photo in the zine is almost an A4 sized print. Iksan, South Korea. 2017. One question that I have continually gotten since the zine was released about whether or not I would be releasing a zine in the near future with some of my more personal and recent work. Nomadic Brewery. Jeonju, South Korea. August, 2020. Nomadic Brewery in Jeonju is owned by my friend, John. I don’t know much about brewing beer. I like beer. Making it, not so much. Interesting? Not so sure. Nomadic Brewery. Jeonju, South Korea. August, 2020. I like drinking beer. I like drinking John’s beer. I’m drinking one while writing this. He asked me to come take photos of him while he “brewed.” I wasn’t really sure what this entailed. He said he would give me some beer so being the good friend I hope I am I headed over. Iksan, South Korea. Tmax 400 at 1600. This just about sums up 2020. It’s been a year to remember. Or forget, depending on your prerogative. For me, 2020 has been a bit of both for me. Certainly some negatives. Not everything has been f$%ked, though. Iksan, South Korea. Tmax 400 at 1600. Photographically, 2019 was probably my worst year in, well, years. I took hardly any photos and barely enjoyed it when I did. One thing I can say about 2020 so far is I’m enjoying carrying a camera again. Iksan, South Korea. Tmax 400 at 1600. Iksan, South Korea.
