Recently, one of our doulas was speaking with her birth doula clients about the clients’ goals for her labor and delivery experience. The client shared all that matters to her and her partner was for both her, and their baby, to come through the experience alive.  Given the very real concerns the client expressed, her doula told her directly that she should consider using the Count the Kick app, because it’s an evidence-based way to reduce preventable stillbirths. To this the client replied that she knew about Count the Kicks, and had discussed it with her doctor, but that they felt it w ..read more

Helping Nursing LGBTQ+ Parents to Feel Comfortable and Heard Ollie Knight, Birth and Postpartum Doula When I think about alignment in the context of my doula work and training, I can think of no better training for me than that of becoming a certified lactation counselor (CLC). This has been a goal of mine since I was a kid, way before I ever considered becoming a doula. Now that I am a doula, this goal makes even more sense for me to pursue, as I feel it would help me take my doula work to the next level. As far back as I can remember, I have been a huge advocate for breastfeeding/chestfe ..read more
