This piece has taken roughly 140 hours to complete, I’m really happy with the final result, the reflections and skin textures were the biggest challenge. The serenity of the image is what attracted me to draw this image. I hope you like it as much as I do. The post New completed charcoal piece appeared first on Simon Knight Art ..read more

charcoal So I’ve been experimenting with charcoal over the last 12 months, and, although I was anxious to change methods on how I draw and the materials I use, I was really looking forward to the depth and matt finish charcoal gives. It’s messy… very messy, but once you get your hands out of the way (and not lean over what you’ve already drawn like graphite!) it’s an amazing material to use. The smoothness and depth makes the drawings really pop out, I use a few items to distribute the charcoal – brushes, ear buds, tissue paper & paper stumps. Some large areas I’ll use a sponge, which give ..read more

Pencil Artists – Who’s your inspiration?

A selection.. Pencil Artist inspiration.. Here are a few artists I have selected that give me the push to go the extra mile.. Dirk Dzimirsky – my artist inspiration I follow a few artists, both pencil and paint experts.. One of my favourites being Dirk Dzimirsky, whom I met and attended a 4 day drawing course with in Germany. He’s such a down to earth guy and so talented. Working on both canvas and paper, some in pencil, some in paint, Dirk’s art is of a very large scale, and there were several unfinished projects on the wall, he likes to draw, put them aside and revisit when necessa ..read more
