Almost 9 months ago (maybe not a coincidental amount of time!) we shared some thoughts with you about Sex after the transition to parenthood.
We’re here to pick up where that conversation left off. Our team has been talking about sex with each other, with our clients, and with colleagues in the field. And we have lots to say that we think you’ll want to hear.
What does “sex” mean?
Before we dig in–let’s define what we mean when we’re talking about sex. Here’s the thing: it doesn’t matter what we mean when we use this term. It matters what you and your partner mean. When our clients say “we’re ..read more

What is EMDR?
More and more people have been hearing word of a type of therapy that can help people process trauma - and maybe you’ve even heard whispers about lights, buzzers, or beeps being involved. I imagine any client I’ve worked with rolling their eyes (hopefully with a smile on their face) as they read this story. I am a stickler when it comes to the word “should”. Why?
Life, generally –and parenthood specifically– seems to include a tremendous amount of shoulds.
“You should feed them this way…”
“I should be better about…”
“You should support their sleep by…”
“I know I should…”
What is this incredibly-popular word all about? Let’s go to the dictionary…
Should (v) used to indicate obligation, duty, or correctness, typically when criticizing someone’s actions. Ex: “h ..read more

What is a birth doula?
A birth doula is a person who assists a mother through labor and delivery by providing support and information. A doula acts as an advocate for birthing people and empowers them to take control of the birthing process—both in terms of their own bodies, but also management and navigation of the experience with medical care providers.
Why it matters.
When you have a trusted doula by your side, you have someone to lean on emotionally and physically. A birth Doula can help coach a birthing person though the difficult parts of labor as well as provide comfort and focus ..read more

Let’s face it. We’ve all made New Year’s Resolutions that make us feel bad about ourselves because we only stay committed to them for about two weeks. This can ultimately lead to feelings of failure, guilt, and defeat, and cause us to engage in even unhealthier habits as a means of coping.
This year, commit to making resolutions that actually feel worthwhile and will positively impact your maternal and family wellbeing, not only physically, but emotionally and socially as well.
To make it easy to remember, I’ve arranged it into a nice little acronym that we can all re ..read more

We entrust sex education to high school health teachers and the pornography industry, and we wonder why we are struggling with sexual relationships, especially when we grow our families and children come into the picture. In this t ..read more
