Almost 9 months ago (maybe not a coincidental amount of time!) we shared some thoughts with you about Sex after the transition to parenthood. We’re here to pick up where that conversation left off. Our team has been talking about sex with each other, with our clients, and with colleagues in the field. And we have lots to say that we think you’ll want to hear. What does “sex” mean? Before we dig in–let’s define what we mean when we’re talking about sex. Here’s the thing: it doesn’t matter what we mean when we use this term. It matters what you and your partner mean. When our clients say “we’re ..read more

Don't Should On Me
Postpartum Wellness Center / Boulder

I imagine any client I’ve worked with rolling their eyes (hopefully with a smile on their face) as they read this story. I am a stickler when it comes to the word “should”. Why?  Life, generally –and parenthood specifically– seems to include a tremendous amount of shoulds.  “You should feed them this way…” “I should be better about…” “You should support their sleep by…” “I know I should…” What is this incredibly-popular word all about? Let’s go to the dictionary… Should (v) used to indicate obligation, duty, or correctness, typically when criticizing someone’s actions. Ex: “h ..read more

Why Having a Birth Doula on Your Team Matters
Postpartum Wellness Center / Boulder
by Guest User
9M ago
What is a birth doula? A birth doula is a person who assists a mother through labor and delivery by providing support and information. A doula acts as an advocate for birthing people and empowers them to take control of the birthing process—both in terms of their own bodies, but also management and navigation of the experience with medical care providers. Why it matters. When you have a trusted doula by your side, you have someone to lean on emotionally and physically. A birth Doula can help coach a birthing person though the difficult parts of labor as well as provide comfort and focus ..read more

New Year’s Resolutions That Will Actually Make You Feel Better
Postpartum Wellness Center / Boulder
by Guest User

Let’s face it. We’ve all made New Year’s Resolutions that make us feel bad about ourselves because we only stay committed to them for about two weeks. This can ultimately lead to feelings of failure, guilt, and defeat, and cause us to engage in even unhealthier habits as a means of coping.   This year, commit to making resolutions that actually feel worthwhile and will positively impact your maternal and family wellbeing, not only physically, but emotionally and socially as well.  To make it easy to remember, I’ve arranged it into a nice little acronym that we can all re ..read more

This week on the PWCB blog, we’re talking all about sex. It’s incredible to think that this one little word yields so much power. It grabs our attention, titillates us, flusters us, and compels us to speak in hushed tones behind closed doors. With all of its impact, its meaning and magnitude, sex is something that most of us do not learn to talk about.  We entrust sex education to high school health teachers and the pornography industry, and we wonder why we are struggling with sexual relationships, especially when we grow our families and children come into the picture. A Holistic Treatment Approach to ADHD
Postpartum Wellness Center / Boulder
by Guest User
9M ago
It’s estimated that over 6 million children are afflicted with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD, of which 40-60% may continue to suffer from it into adulthood. It is often missed in girls, and recently adult women are more commonly being diagnosed with it. This may be because perimenopausal hormonal decline worsens ADHD neurochemistry – just when many women find themselves juggling more responsibilities than ever. ADHD can look like anxiety and may be misdiagnosed as such. Additionally, it is highly heritable and runs in families. Even though ADHD is a common me ..read more
