I bought Sheryl Crow’s live album and this is the song that introduced me to the Dixie Chicks and made me realize I enjoyed country, which at the time was about the least cool music genre you could listen to ? Sorry I couldn’t find a video with better quality.

So basically I've avoided this genre my whole life despite being a huge music nerd. I've recently discovered that I actually don't hate country that much at all, but it's mainly the sad country pop songs I've heard on the radio that I like. (Think Rascal Flatts, Lady A, The Chicks, early taylor swift) What are some classic albums I have to listen to? Some underrated artists?
My tastes are usually much more specific for other genres but I genuinely know nothing about this genre. I was told something called alt country exists which might be up my alley?

Do y’all consider Guy Clark country? I do, but I am always surprised to hear people say that they think Townes is country, but not Guy

I was thinking about the song Tight Fittin’ Jeans by Conway Twitty and thought of the line “that night I held more woman than most eyes have ever seen” and it made me think about other old country songs that would talk about wanting to “hold” a woman or wanting to be “held”. Do you interpret this as just a loving embrace like slow dancing or cuddling, or do you interpret this as a synonym for sex, similar to how the Bible refers to sex as “knowing" someone?
