Wild Spots with Amour Vert
A Key to the Armoire

For my second collaboration post with sustainable brand Amour Vert (you can see the first one here!), I went in the opposite season. Whereas the first look was all Spring, this one could feel right at home in Autumn. Silk, believe it or not, insulates and it’s quite warm. Of course, I would wear a slip and hosiery if it were colder, but for Winter in Florida, it’s just perfect as is! This skirt is super versatile, and it was difficult for me to choose the print because all of them were so great! I finally decided to go with leopard because I love this print. For me, leopard has always been a ..read more

Silk Blooms with Amour Vert

If you follow me, you know that I’m big into sustainability. I re-wear my clothes all the time, upcycle, when needed, and only wear natural fabrics. Yes, in case you don’t know, natural fabrics are the most sustainable option when it comes to fashion because synthetics are incredibly pollutant and create micro-plastics that are difficult to eliminate. Of course, when Amour Vert, a fashion label whose mission is tied to sustainability, contacted me for a collaboration, I couldn’t say “Yes!” fast enough! Take this off-the-shoulder dress, for example, the cut is comfortable and flattering, the ..read more

Chelsea Birds for the New Year
A Key to the Armoire

These Chelsea birds plates were a treasure find that I was so lucky to win at auction. They are antique, handpainted Copelands Spode from the late 19th century. I was lucky to get 11 plates, and 8 of them have different birds depicted. Naturally, a grand night such as New Year’s Eve calls for pulling out all of the stops, and these plates were just the way to celebrate! By the way, if you have never heard of “Chelsea Bird” plates, let me share with you a bit of why they are called that. The exotic birds that were often hand painted on china in the nineteenth century tend to be generically cal ..read more

Those of you who have been following my blog for a while know that the Gilded Age and anything Edwardian and Victorian are my preferred choices when setting a table. This is even more so for Christmas, as I believe no one celebrated Christmas quite like the Victorians! For this table, I decided to feature my collection of Spode Victorian Series luncheon plates, which were made out of original copper plates done by Spode in Victorian times. These vintage plates became the inspiration and decorating guide for the rest of the table. As you can see, and because the plates have lots of pinks and p ..read more

Victorian Spring Birthday Tea
A Key to the Armoire

As I mentioned in this post (here), May is my birthday month, and this table is one I set to celebrate it last year. My birthday coincides with Queen Victoria’s, so I thought that an afternoon tea, with Victoria sponge, of course, would be so fun! I often hear people refer to tea in one of two ways: “Afternoon Tea” or “High Tea”. Often, people seem to think that “High Tea” sounds fancier or is more extravagant, but the reality is quite different. “Afternoon Tea” is what most people think of when they think of a tea celebration. An “Afternoon Tea” can also feature champagne, which sometimes is ..read more

Eyelet Color Block
A Key to the Armoire

Just like it takes time to curate a home, it also takes time to curate a closet. Take this outfit, for instance. First, came the Ferragamo Vara shoes, whose lace-like, laser-cut design reminded me of eyelet. A few years later, came the ruffled top, and finally, a couple of years after that I found the skirt, which I altered a bit to wear with the ribbons on both sides. Eyelet is also something I don’t associate with color blocking, but I think that it ended up looking great, mostly because the eyelet links the two (actually, the three) elements in this outfit. Because eyelet is such a quinte ..read more

Celebrating May Day with Lily of the Valley
A Key to the Armoire

May is here, and with it, my birthday month begins! Yesterday was May 1st, a day that is celebrated differently in many countries. In most of Latin America, it’s the equivalent of Labor Day; in Spain, it happened to be Mother’s Day because it was the first Sunday in May; and in France, May Day is called “La Fete du Muguet”, where lily of the valley is given to (and received from!) friends and family for “bonheur” and “bonne chance”, or happiness and good luck! Lily of the Valley is one of my most favorite flowers, and very dear to me. Did you know that “Susana” means lily in Hebrew? Unfortuna ..read more

April is quite the festive month in our home because both my dad and my brother celebrate birthdays within a few days from each other. This table was set to celebrate my dad’s special day, which served as the perfect reason to feature PartyLite’s elegant “Silver Bands Votive Holders” and their fabulous soy wax “Be Balanced” tealights. When PartyLite contacted me for a collaboration, it was hard to choose among so many wonderful products but, as those of you who follow me know, I have quite the collection of sterling silver overlay, so as soon as I saw the “Silver Bands Votive Holders”, I fell ..read more

Roses are Red with Alexandre Birman
A Key to the Armoire

Today, I am sharing a look I wore to an event at the Alexandre Birman store in Bal Harbour Shops. This event took place during the Latin American Fashion Summit, which took place in Miami, and where Alexandre Birman presented his inspiring design and business success story. He was in attendance at the event, so I had the pleasure of meeting him. Oftentimes, women think that you must wear dresses for special events, a cocktail reception, or even a more formal event. The truth is that you don’t need to! Having luxurious pieces in your armoire allows you to mix and match to construct elegant an ..read more
