I’ve just finished a week of shooting and editing daily videos out in Jordan at the multi-day ultramarathon event called the Wadi Rum Ultra. Shooting in baking-hot temperatures in the desert is really challenging, especially for camera equipment, as well as for myself following extremely fit athletes! But it was an incredible and fun experience and the whole team did an amazing job. I worked alongside photographer, Ben Tufnell, who captured some incredible images (including the feature image for this post). Check out all the videos below and head to the Wadi Rum Ultra Facebook page to see mo ..read more

The photography competition website, Photocrowd, just launched a new comp on the theme of ‘Bucket List Moments‘ in partnership with Drobo (the prize being a Drobo 5N2). And being a DroboExplorer ambassador, they asked me to judge the competition! “Capturing your bucket-list moments is one of the best ways to look back at your most memorable experiences and is an extremely rewarding skill to have. The scope of where these pictures can be taken is endless. We want to see your best images taken in moments you won’t ever forget.” Having worked on the photography team for the Red Bull Illume comp ..read more

Paul Guschlbauer’s Fly Overland Project

Last year I filmed and edited a daily vlog for Red Bull athlete Paul Guschlbauer while he took part in the X-Alps, a two week hiking and paragliding adventure race. The vlogs went really well and after the race Paul told me about his plans to fly a bush plane from the northernmost point of Alaska to the southernmost tip of Patagonia in a project he was calling Fly Overland. He already had his pilot’s license and had flown a bunch of times in Alaska already, so now it was just a case of preparing everything for such a long and ambitious adventure. We went out to Alaska a month after the ..read more

A couple of months ago I went out to film and photograph a world first expedition as Laura Bingham, Ness Knight, Pip Stewart and their Wai Wai guides attempted to kayak the Essequibo River in Guyana from the source to the sea. The whole trip took the team 72 days and they paddled over 1100 km, successfully completing their goal on 17th April. I joined them half way through and shot around 8TB video footage and over 15,000 photos. Camera and tech gear: Canon C300, Canon 5D Mark IV, 16-35mm, 50mm, 24-105mm, 70-200mm, 100-400mm, GoPro Hero6 x 2, DJI Mavi ..read more

A blog post with Drobo about my photo and video work and the challenges of shooting adventure races: “I recently filmed the Austrian Red Bull athlete, Paul Guschlbauer taking part in a 4-man adventure relay race called the Red Bull Dolomitenmann that happens every year in Lienz, Austria. Paul is the paraglider in the team and the other guys do mountain running, mountain biking and kayaking. I worked with Paul this summer on another adventure race called the Red Bull X-Alps, shooting a daily vlog for him while he ran and flew across the Alps for two-weeks.” Read the full blog post here:  ..read more

Last year while I was shooting a daily vlog at the Red Bull X-Alps adventure race, I was lucky enough to be supported by Drobo with their brand new 5D3 (a 5 bay direct attached storage device) along with three Seagate IronWolf Pro drives. The 5D3 was genuinely (I’m not just saying that) a critical part of my workflow, allowing me to backup all the video content I was shooting without the hassle of multiple external hard-drives and also edit the videos directly on the Drobo with Final Cut Pro X thanks to the fast Thunderbolt connection. Now I’m honoured to say that they’ve made me an ambassado ..read more
