TAMPA, Fla. — While there’s evidence to suggest breast milk offers infants protection against COVID-19, health professionals say more research is needed to answer remaining questions.
“There are still a lot of unknowns with it. We don’t know for how long those antibodies are in a mom’s milk. We don’t know how effective they are at preventing infection in infants. We don’t know if those antibodies are going to be specific to a mom/baby pair,” said Lenna Gregory, a certified lactation educator and donor relations and outreach coordinator with Mot ..read more

TAMPA BAY, Fla. — With about four million people in Florida being fully vaccinated, some are experiencing side effects.
A few people will have no reaction after getting the COVID-19 vaccine, but if you do experience symptoms, doctors say it’s a good thing.
“It means your body is doing what it’s supposed to be doing and chances are you’re getting a good immunity against COVID-19,” said Dr. Thomas Unnasch, Professor at USF College of Public Health.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, some of the most common side effects from the COVID-19 vaccines include pain ..read more

TAMPA, Fla. — At just two-years-old, Kevin Mundaca’s daughter Lilli became one of the first pediatric patients in Florida to be put on the medical cannabis program.
“The chemo treatment that they had, it was killing her. We literally had to pull her out of it and ever since then, we’ve been using cannabis since then,” said Kevin Mundaca.
He says it’s helped tremendously with the side effects she has as a result of chemotherapy.
“Rick Simpson oil is really good for inhibiting the cancer cell growth, so that’s what we use that as like a maintenance dosage,” Mundaca said.

TAMPA, Fla. — A bill that would cap the potency of medical marijuana in Florida got pushed back Tuesday — not just ahead of a vote in the Florida House of Representatives Professions and Public Health Subcommittee, but also from a Tampa Bay doctor.
“This kind of looks like a solution looking for a problem,” said board-certified pediatrician Dr. David Berger.
According to Berger, two physicians currently need to determine the benefits outweigh the risks of treating a patient younger than 18 years old with medical marijuana. He said his conce ..read more

TAMPA, Fla. – There is very limited data about the safety of getting a COVID-19 vaccine as it relates to being pregnant. A Bay Area physician says drug makers and the federal government should be more transparent about the lack of data so expectant mothers can make informed decisions before getting the shot.
“Especially with this new vaccine which really hasn’t been used in anyone who is pregnant yet,” said Dr. David Berger with Wholistic Pediatrics and Family Care.

Florida’s vaccination effort is getting another boost with Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose coronavirus vaccine. They expect to deliver the doses this week.
Four million doses of the new Johnson & Johnson vaccine are currently being shipped across the country.
“We don’t exactly how much but tentatively the numbers that we’re looking at for Johnson & Johnson shipment to Florida this week is 175,000 doses,” said Gov. Ron DeSantis.
It’s the only COVID-19 vaccine out of the three that comes in a single dose. It also does not need to be kept in a freezer and can be stored at refrigera ..read more
