Dear Patient Families of NSP, As you may have seen in the news, there are some small outbreaks of measles occurring throughout the country, including in Chicago. Additionally, there has been a significant increase in measles around the world.   Measles is a highly contagious virus that causes an illness featuring fever, rash, and respiratory symptoms.  Please see the AAP or CDC websites for further details about this vaccine-preventable illness. Dr. Elwell and Dr. Kornfeld represented North Suburban Pediatrics this past weekend at the 100th anniversary event for The Cradle. As part of NSPs commitment to the community, our doctors have cared for the adoptees’ medical needs for decades. Today, Dr. Elwell serves as the Medical Director for the organization, with Dr. Kornfeld and Dr. Messing also volunteering their time. Flu Vaccine: Seasonal flu vaccine has arrived for all patients ages 6 months and up. COVID Vaccine: The updated COVID vaccine recommended for all patients ages 6 months and up is arriving over the next few weeks. RSV Injection (Beyfortus – RSV monoclonal antibody): This is a newly recommended shot for infants entering their first RSV season (winter). Summer Sun, Bugs, and Ticks

Yippee! It’s summer!  The weather is warmer, the days are longer…let’s get outside!   That’s pretty much my mantra right now. But outside comes with some problems we haven’t had to deal with for a while: sun exposure, mosquito bites, and ticks. Although the sun feels good and just a little bit of sun exposure each day gets us great doses of vitamin D, the harmful radiation from sun exposure can cause burns, premature aging, and increase our risk of skin cancer.  To take care of your skin:  Sunscreen with broad exposure against both UVA and UVB rays should be worn when ..read more

Dear Patient Families of NSP, A  pediatric COVID vaccine for children ages 6 months old through 4 years old has now been given emergency use authorization by the FDA and the CDC and should be available to the public shortly. NSP has been approved to receive the Pfizer vaccine from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), but at this time we have not yet received any doses.
