Making big waves for summer at the Gower Mighty Hike That was a busy 2 weeks, and we still have two more Mighty Hikes to go to get to the end of July... and the weather hasn't turned up yet... With over 1000 miles of driving covered, and that's just me - to get to Yorkshire Dales and then the Gower Peninsular, it's about as far as I can get from the office here in Sussex, and then I remembered we still have the Rob Roy and Corwall mighty hikes at the end of August... if you're still up for entering these fantastic events - go here: https://www.macmillan.org.uk/mighty-hikes&nbs ..read more

all calm before the off  So if you're into cold baths and rubber suits, then the next step is to enjoy doing that and thrashing your limbs about - and hey presto - you could be an Ironman swimmer. Granted - possibly not on the flat in a lake, but if you pick one of the fastest downsteam rivers in the UK - then you might be in with a chance of completing things. Not quite - but all the same - welcome to the Raw Energy Pursuits River Arun 3.5km swim. You would need some skill to get back to shore at the end - slowest is still under 2 hours - if you miss the last turn into the lif ..read more

What a busy weekend that was - three events - one of which has two days to it... no pressure but the CEO of Macmillan was doing her hike too, so we had to do a good job of that one as well... (we did !) A weekend of rain on the saturday - which the Mighty Hikers mightily enjoyed - on the downside so did the midges at the lake side - so top tip for our team next year - make sure you take some insect repellant with you. And an unbrealla. Unfortunately for next year we will also have to advise taking a metal detector or putting an apple location disk widget on your car key fob -  because one ..read more

That start line early in the morning sun.   Yes we got lucky. Not so lucky to have to drive up the country on a friday into rush hour bank holiday friday half term traffic for 8 hours instead of four - I blame the M6... but very lucky on the saturday with absolutely no rain at all !  And they're off - tutu's and colourful leggings not compulsory (but they help) (and can someone turn the backlit background down please) Our intrepid team of 5 covered the route at 9 locations, including the Menai Bridge, Lake Ogwen, and that bit just after the last pit-stop whi ..read more

here's the finish funnel sight - what a relief ! I didn't blog that much with news  since the covid break, beacuse after that it was really the responsibility of the event organisers to tell participants where to get their free downloads - (www.mightyhike.photo) and to be honest - they did - because when you're paying for a service - you want to get your value for money out of it. And as they had the emails for all the participants - then they could and they did. That sort of suited me fine, but I'm also aware I wasn't telling people about new events and things they really ought ..read more

"We all face challenges in our lives, and it's how we come to meet them and raise ourselves up that marks the measure of onself." said the Vice Chariman of American Express to me one day, as he pulled himself up to his full 6ft4in height, (yes, that is the No2 most senior person in the whole of American Express worldwide), after I'd asked him "How's the new job?" whilst earnestly washing my hands in the mens loos. "We all face challenges". Try it this way - do the 3 Forts Challenge wearing a T-Shirt saying "Death", and see if that's not a pretty hardcore way to tackle a tough half ..read more

Raw Energy Pursuits (REP) is one of the rarer and more specialised running event companies that we work with. I often describe them as a "boutique" event organisers - well turned out, and a lot of attention to detail in presentation and planning, as well as putting up a good show, and excellent teams of marshals and well briefed volunteers. It's one of the reasons we like working with them ! - no dramas ! Tuff Fitty do von Trapp We've had two events recently - both by REP for local school fundraisers - with strong turnouts: https://sspimg.com/REP-Findon-Grand-National-2024-Gallery ht ..read more
