Identity politics and sex education in schools

The Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, has announced that a review of government Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) guidance will be brought forward following a disturbing report on external RSE resources, commissioned by Miriam Cates MP. But a review of RSE guidance does not go far enough without looking at the root cause of how extreme, age-inappropriate sex resources have been accepted into schools in the first place. Extreme sexual practices and age-inappropriate material in schools RSE resources are linked to the Queer Theory-based gender identity teaching which has already undermined safeg ..read more

ID:75453421 This is a guest post by the mother of an autistic adolescent girl who went through a teenage gender identity crisis, brought on by wider mental health issues. Many parents of teenage girls will recognise this scenario. We are very grateful to this mother for allowing us to publish her account, as a hopeful story with positive results that may inspire parents to keep on advocating for their child: some professionals will listen and take action. Teenage gender identity crisis and a positive shift in mental health care and schools I’ll keep the backstory short.  It’s important bu ..read more

The parents who challenged the Tavistock GIDS

In 2018 there was a lot going on at the Tavistock GIDS; the Trust had commissioned an internal review following serious concerns expressed by clinicians, documented in a report by consultant psychiatrist David Bell. The document we share in this post tells the story of the parents who challenged the Tavistock at the same time as all this was happening. Hannah Barnes’ book Time to Think documents in detail the doubts and concerns expressed internally at the Trust at this time and the attempts made by whistleblowers, clinicians and governors to effect positive change in a service they were worr ..read more

Trans picture books for little children
Transgender Trend

by Shelley Charlesworth What’s the harm in trans picture books for children? Many might argue they impart important values of acceptance and understanding to a young audience; values that fit into the popular narrative in children’s literature that they should ‘be kind’ and at the same time ‘be yourself.’ There’s been a huge increase in such books recently in response to one of the most successful political campaigns of our time; to persuade the public that the interests of trans people are inextricably linked to those of lesbians, gays and bisexuals. The publishing industry has been happy to ..read more

Gender indoctrination in schools: a teenage girl’s testimony

Photo by Eric Ward on Unsplash “Cynthia” is a pseudonym to protect the identity of the 14-year-old girl who wrote to us with this account of the gender ideology indoctrination in her state school in the UK. This is a long post but we have not edited her words as we think all of what she has to say is important, although some potentially identifying details have been changed. Our thanks to “Cynthia” for this courageous testimony and to her mother for her support in allowing us to publish it. We hope this disturbing account is a wake-up call to everyone involved in the education o ..read more

The NHS interim service specification public consultation ends on December 4th and we urge everyone to send in a reponse. Overall we are very pleased to see that this proposed service specification for child and adolescent services is a move away from ideology and forward to a proper clinical care model. Below is our full response to the public consultation. Please use this as a guide to submit your own response and add your own points, especially if you have experience as a service user or a parent (including your experience of trans policies in your child’s school). You can respond to the c ..read more

Post Cass, it’s time to challenge the MOU
Transgender Trend

by Shelley Charlesworth The landscape for the treatment of children and young people with gender distress has changed utterly over the last six months. The Cass Interim Report began the process in March, followed by news in July that the Tavistock’s gender clinic for children, GIDS, is to close early in 2023. These profound changes come as the Conservative Party is electing a new leader, which means a new government with a new legislative timetable. Whether the proposed bill to ban conversion therapy survives a change in leadership is in doubt. And while the bill at present would ban such the ..read more

The Tavistock gender clinic to be closed down: our response
Transgender Trend
by Transgender Trend

We welcome the news that the Tavistock gender clinic is to be closed down and replaced with regional services by Spring 2023. The treatment of gender dysphoric children will be integrated within other paediatric mental health services to ensure the same standards of care as for any other child accessing mental health care services. The separation of gender dysphoria into a specialist area has led to the profound failings of a service which has replaced normal levels of care with a fast-track medical transition service for ‘trans kids.’ The separation of these children into their own clinic, a ..read more

On Saturday July 9th Transgender Trend spent the morning in the company of a stellar cast of ground-breaking authors. Our webinar Fact and Fiction celebrated the authors who have written and published books in a cultural climate that is hostile to facts and reality and insistent on their replacement with a fiction, namely the idea of gender identity in place of the reality of sex. Today, in a cultural climate where it is heresy to define a woman as an adult human female, to even write a book about menstruation for girls becomes a subversive act, let alone books that critique the idea of gende ..read more

Helen, a severely learning-disabled girl: sex-based rights under threat
Transgender Trend

Our severely learning-disabled sixteen year-old daughter, Helen (not her real name), is entirely dependent on others for intimate care. Nearly two years ago, her special school sent round a new intimate care policy, which had been ratified by its governing body: “A decision has been made to remove cross-gender consent from the personal and intimate care policy, which is in line with legislation and guidance relating to equality and diversity”.  In other words, same-sex intimate care had now become cross-gender intimate care, a change of policy that would allow male members of staff to ..read more
