Hey Reddit!
I’ve got a build up of splice credits and I’m having a hard time finding some good samples to use for bass music. Looking for stuff in a heavier bass style like Subdocta, Zebbler Encanti Experience, Perkaboo.
If anyone has any recommendations that would be great! :)

Even though I found that EDM is not the kind of music where exceptionally sophisticaded melodies/harmonies really matter, and many great tunes seem to be pretty simple from the melodic perspective. However, the stories of some EDM producers (both pros and some hobbyists that I personally know) that they started playing classical instruments when they were 5 or 7 yo that helped them develop a lot as musicians when discovered club music in their early mid teens does bring me down a little bit and makes me doubt my skill and ability to ever produce a good sounding track....

Hello all,
Currently I live in Indiana USA which has basically no music scene whatsoever. I am a producer, but main passion is engineering; mixing, mastering, and recording. I mostly want to engineer or co-produce for other artists and I want to move out of this state anyways, so where should I go? I'm thinking Denver Colorado oraybe the Netherlands? A lot of the artists I like come from colorado, but I feel like I might enjoy the Netherlands more and have a bit more success there. I wouldn't mind working on other music as well, but my main thing is EDM. Through some Googling I found a few ci ..read more

I have a section in my track where I have the bass + kick playing, but my melody sounds like it's sitting and competing with the kick/bass even though I EQd the proper frequencies.
How do I make it stand out or poke through? Would panning, widening, or layering help?

Does an AI tool yet exist, that can separate a drum loop/break into individual tracks like kick, snare, hat, and perc? And of course actually sound good at the same time, and not full of artifacts, etc.
Or is the tech not there yet? I can only seem to find tools that can separate a full track into larger stems like all the drums in one stem. But I'm also completely new to AI tools, so maybe I am just overlooking something.
Thank you for your help guys!

Making some electro swing and I was wondering if anyone could help me with finding some high quality brass sounds. Plugin recommendations are good and if you can direct me towards some good sound fonts that's even better.

EDIT: So I guess the simple answer to my question is: Because 2 tracks are louder than one even if they don't have the exact same spectrum. But then my question is: What would be best practice here when I'm following tutorials that say that the kick should be at around -10 dB and I am mixing all other sounds relative to that by ear?
Should I just ignore the level of the Perc-group? Is it bad if my Master is at -3 dB when I'm done mixing?

Hi,
I am in the mixing phase of my first real track. At this point I only want to mix and EQ the kick and the clap of my house-track and I thi ..read more

So after months of prep and practice, my co-DJ (We live mix set lists together) & I got our first real gig. Somewhere in the area of 500 people, we were the openers and went off like we were the headliners. Amazing. Everything we dreamed of, the people lost their minds and we ended up getting around a minute of applause. Hooked.
My question to you great people I’ve been reading on for awhile: how do we transition towards production. I’ve chopped and rearranged several tracks (We label them as edits in Rekordbox) for ease in mixing, but that’s as far as we’ve gone
Do we start with making D ..read more

I've been going over some drum pattern cheat sheets for 808s and 909s and noticed that some patterns are written as if the choke groups between closed and open hats are off.
Did old drum machines have choke groups off for factory settings? I'm trying to understand if note length, velocity, and choke from these cheat sheets.
Does anyone who has familiarity with 808s and 909s know if choke groups for say some house tracks were modified or modifiable? Or even triggered on and off to shorten the open hat rather than take up a spot by loading another one cut in half?
