ENNY – UNDER TWENTY FIVE

Enny’s been consistently brilliant over the last year or two, and much of that consistent brilliance is encapsulated in ‘Under Twenty Five,’ her debut mixtape. Previous singles ‘Same Old,’ ‘I Want‘ and ‘Peng Black Girls‘ all make their way on to the project, with stand-out new track ‘Keisha’s & Brenda’s’ taking centre stage. The track serves as a message to men everywhere about how (not) to treat women, and a treatise on how to be a better ally. Check out the self-directed video here, and stream the project in full below via SoundCloud. Enny · Under Twenty Five ..read more

DAVE – WE’RE ALL ALONE IN THIS TOGETHER

Dave digs deep on second album ‘We’re All Alone In This Together,’ which must have taken some doing, bearing in mind the heart and soul that went into the making of his debut ‘Psychodrama.’ It’s every bit as personal, but a little broader in scope as Dave looks outward as well as in. The Streatham MC takes aim at the systemic issues that the Tory government’s ‘austerity’ made worse, pledges to make amends and be a better ally to the black women that he’s wronged in the past, and discusses posterity. Even for an album whose opening track is called ‘We’re All Alone,’ it’s a sombre listen for the ..read more

TYLER, THE CREATOR – CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST

Tyler, The Creator’s latest album is one of his most gratifying. He’s an artist that prioritises reinvention and innovation, sometimes to the detriment of the listening experience, as ‘Cherry Bomb’ will attest. Elsewhere in his back catalogue, albums like ‘Wolf’ and ‘IGOR’ saw Tyler refine his sound and explore new concepts, but left fans of his earlier material wanting in terms of sheer bars. ‘Call Me If You Get Lost’ goes one step further than ‘IGOR’ in terms of fusing these two sides to what makes Tyler so compelling. The production is often Jazzy, lush and pretty, but takes enough turns in ..read more

LITTLE SIMZ – ROLLIN’ STONE

Little Simz drops a third single from upcoming album ‘Sometimes I Might Be Introvert’ in new track ‘Rollin’ Stone.’ Produced by Jakwob & Inflo, we begin in fairly familiar Simz territory; strings to begin, followed swiftly by whip-smart bars over textured beats, but about midway through we get a beat switch. All low-end and 808s on the beat, Simz turns Eilish with a simplistic, nonchalant flow. It’s an interesting cut that’s set to sit at number 12 on the 19 track album, with ‘Introvert‘ at number 1 and ‘Woman‘ at number 2. Stream below via YouTube ..read more

ENNY – I WANT

Building on the R&B / Hip Hop stylings of ‘Same Old,’ on which Enny loses patience for the “same old boys,” the rapper entirely switches up the tempo on ‘I Want.’ It’s an undeniable dance cut with deep R&B undertones that, which again showcases her lyricism and versatility. It would be a mistake to interpret ‘I Want’ as an experiment though, we’re simply seeing her shift gears in real-time. The artist pulls references from classic Dancehall records and packs wordplay into complex rhyme schemes, further illustrating her commitment to Rap as a craft — a storytelling art form. As such, EN ..read more

ICEÉ TGM – TLC

Following the first of a new freestyle series ‘3style 001,’ Iceé TGM comes through with her first single of 2021 entitled ‘TLC.’ With Lekaa Beats on production [the brains behind Young T & Bugsey’s ‘New Shape’] it was bound to be big. Don’t get it twisted though, the track’s title may be an abbreviation for tender, loving care, but ‘TLC’ is anything but. It’s the self declaration of a heartbreaker, exuding ‘it’s not me it’s you’ energy from the off, with unconventional lyricism that imbues the track with a fun, light-hearted sensibility, which is complimented perfectly b the accompanying v ..read more

MS BANKS – PULL UP FT. K-TRAP

Ms Banks is back on the radar with a brand new single entitled ‘Pull Up,’ featuring fellow South-Londoner K-Trap and production from Cadenza, alongside a music video directed by Wowa. Blasting off with air horns right from the start, Cadenza lays out a menacing backdrop; adding kicks and snares into the mix to make this a brutal and infectious Drill anthem. Banks takes no time hopping on to the track to deliver the goods confidently: “I do not fear anybody, one for the dearly departed / I don’t do half-hearted / I’mma finish what I started“. K-Trap follows suit; menacing and gritty, oozing “do ..read more
