The project was successful in providing a reliable energy source, but the riverscape was dramatically altered from over 100 years of power generation. The byproduct was the loss of 400 miles of aquatic habitat in the main stem and tributary channels for anadromous species, the degradation of water quality in three large reservoirs, and the cultural impact to indigenous p ..read more

On October 10th, GreenWorks was honored by the State Land Board for our work on the Wade Creek Park restoration. In a multi-year effort, GreenWorks worked with a variety of stakeholders to return the pond by the Wade Creek Library back into its original form: a free flowing stream. In the process, the project team increased pedestrian access to the area by providing boardwalks and benches, returned native plantings, and provided improved passage for salmon. The project was led by Greenworks, with Otak and Pacific Habitat Services, and partners SeaReach and Keystone Contracting Inc. For the ful ..read more

The City of Estacada hired GreenWorks to turn a pond located behind Estacada Public Library into a flowing stream. This change would restore habitat, reduce maintenance costs, and make the area safer by reducing flooding. First, the GreenWorks led team conducted a geomorphic and hydrology study, and then did an assessment of the site by providing surveys for topography and tree health. Two alternatives were then presented to the public at a series of public outreach meetings. The final design is comprised of a riffe, pool, and channel complex with riparian plantings, large wood for habitat com ..read more

The Red Electric Trail is coming along. Steel sections of Portland Bureau of Transportation’s (PBOT) pedestrian and bicycle bridge between SW Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway and SW Capitol Highway were lifted into place last week. The bridge is a critical segment of the Red Electric Trail system. The Red Electric Trail is a major regional trail which connects the existing Fanno Creek Trail west of Alpenrose Dairy to the Willamette Greenway Trail in South Waterfront. It generally follows the old Red Electric train line which opened up in 1914 and closed in 1929. It is being built as part of the Por ..read more
