Mrs. Elizabeth James, a widow, aged 52 of Greenfleld-road, Tottenham, London, was a guest recently at a wedding in Braemar-road, Tottenham. The bride's mother found her resting nor head on the table. She said she was unwell. After being taken into the garden she died. The festivities were then abandoned. At the inquest the doctor ascribed death to heart disease, and the jury returned a verdict to that effect.

Jane died 10th September, 1897 in Cairns Queensland and her parents were recorded as James COLWILD and Jane McCASLIN.

It would seem to be cheap by today's standards, but in 1859 2 pounds would have been a fair price to pay for locating your wife and child.

Sentence of penal servitude for lifewas passed at Manchester Assizes onJohn Whalley, 32 years, fitter, of Accrington, Lancashire, for cutting off his step-daughter's hands. Whalley married Mrs. Wildman, a widow, two yearsago. Their married life was unhappy.
After a violent quarrel on September17 his wife left, taking her little daughter. He took the child from school next day, cut off her hands in his room, and was found in the back kitchen with a rubber gas tube in his mouth.
