On July 17, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) released a revised version of Form I-9, which is used to verify identity and employment authorization of workers and corresponding reference documents. However, St. Louis, Missouri is bucking this trend – although not willingly – by decreasing its minimum wage from $10 to $7.70, effective Aug. 28. Tennessee to Allow Employers Monthly Payroll Frequency

Private employers in Tennessee now are permitted to pay wages once per month, under a measure passed by the state’s legislature on May 11. The bill was signed into law by Governor Bill Haslam and became effective immediately. Previously, employers were required to pay wages at least semimonthly, so the new law provides them added flexibility. 2017 Social Security Wage Base Increases

With the largest hike in U.S. history set to take effect on January 1, 2017, the new Social Security wage base will increase from $118,500 to $127,200. This $8,700 increase marks the first wage base increase in two years and the highest percentage increase since 1983. Employees with wages equal to or larger than $127,200 will notice an additional $539.40 allocated toward Social Security on their 2017 tax returns.
